  • Large touring site in Warwickshire, with 20 acres of lakes
  • Twycross Zoo 10 minutes’ drive; National Space Centre 35 minutes
  • Lake beaches for sailing, paddleboarding, fishing and windsurfing
Want to spend your holidays lakeside – perhaps relaxing as you wait for fish to bite or honing your paddleboarding skills? You can do all this and more at Bosworth Lakeside Lodges, a family-oriented touring site spread over 50 acres in the Warwickshire countryside. There are 20 acres of lakes here, so you can get up to a wide range of watersports, from boating and kayaking to windsurfing, plus the above-mentioned paddleboarding and fishing. Taster sessions may be available if you fancy trying out something new. There are also colourful pedalos shaped like flamingos, swans and dragons, so you can cut a fine figure on the lake. Fishing in the pools is included for one person in the group (and under 14s go free), and additional adults can join for just a short fee per day. Back on dry land, you can relax on the sandy lake beaches or head to the site’s 12-hole crazy golf course with a nautical theme. For the kids, meanwhile, there's a fab adventure playground, with a dedicated section for youngsters under five. Several picnic and barbecue areas are available, with café and pub catering a mile to the east in the pleasant town of Market Bosworth (five minutes’ drive). Dogs are welcome at Bosworth Lakeside Lodges, but they need to be kept on leads at all times. Please note that this site only accepts family groups and couples aged over 25. On-site facilities include a dedicated toilet and shower block, washing-up facilities, Elsan disposal, fresh water and waste disposal. Calor and Campingaz bottles are available for exchange.

FHU gravel travel trailer campsite (waterside)

Liked: The site was really clean and quiet - it felt like a really calm break away. There were options to be on the water or walking around the main body of water. The fully serviced pitch was great and the access into site right up to the pitch was ample for me, it was my first time towing so I was concerned about this.

Disliked: It would be great to have an indoor recreational area - pool table, games area (board games) etc.

The shower block needs updating - but is still clean.

Liked: Friendly staff, ducks, fish, playground and other campers. The pitches are well maintained as is the rest of the site. The manager was lovely and very helpful when we got stuck.

My child loved playing on the little lakeside beach, feeding the ducks, watching the fish and the little playground.

The bathrooms were clean and the water was hot.

Disliked: nothing

Liked: A little oasis, peaceful setting within a Lodge park. Lots of wildlife, admittedly the ducks are overfriendly but that was something we took in our stride with our dog. Facilities are alittle dated but clean & functional. Plenty of takeaways in Market Bosworth but during the day parking can be limited. Lots of places of interest within easy reach.

Disliked: The 5am alarm caused by the ducks waking up😂.

Liked: Everything! Nice spacious pitches on the hardstanding. Great play area for all ages. Lots of open space to play. Decent little shop carrying the essentials. Easy access on and off with code. Nice toilets and shower block. Good elsan point.
A decent walk in to Market Bosworth (about 30 minutes) paved pretty much the whole way (have to nip in to the sports ground car park) felt like uphill most the way, but once you've had a pint in the centre it's pretty much downhill the whole way back. Decent chippy, pubs and restaurants in the town. Reasonable WiFi too! But generally phone signal is OK too.
Looks like there's a train station a short walk for steam trains etc. So check out the timings to see timetable.
Easy access to canal network and marina as well for some nice walks!
Great location for s number of decent attractions including Twycross Zoo.

Disliked: Not a big deal, as it was our fault for going out of season, but the water activities start in April and they look great! So will definitely return for them!

Local attractions

Twycross Zoo (10 minutes’ drive) is home to almost 100 different species of animals, with a special focus on primates – from great apes like gorillas and orangutans, to monkeys – plus lemurs and meerkats. Younger children might like the immersive touch-and-feel activities in the Gruffalo Discovery Land. The kids may not be in school, but there are real-life history lessons at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre (10 minutes). Here you can take a guided walk around the fields where the 1485 battle took place, learn about the War of the Roses and discover how King Richard III lost his life in the fray. There are also children’s hunts and talks. Leave the past behind and zoom ahead to the future (or at least into space) at Leicester’s National Space Centre (35 minutes). You can experience what it’s like inside the International Space Station, see a sample of moon rock and learn about the universe in the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium.
