Camping meadow
Grade ii-listed conservation farm

  • Meadow pitches on a 40-acre Grade II-listed Hertfordshire farm estate
  • A mile from central Hertford; 10 minutes' walk to railway station
  • Meet the animals on site, light campfires and paddle in the stream
What a pretty place to stay – Goldings Estate Farm is a Grade II-listed building, and the pitches within its 40-acre country estate are attractive indeed, flanked by ancient woodlands, a canal and a stream. And what a handy location too: this Hertfordshire site is just on the edge of Hertford, about a mile from the castle in the centre of town and about 10 minutes’ walk from the nearest small supermarket. Travelling here or getting out and about should be fairly easy, as the farm entrance is just off the A119 and Hertford North station is about 10 minutes' walk away. That location also makes this a great spot for day trips to London, or for those looking for an easy escape from the city via public transport (trains take about 50 minutes to/from London). Despite the lovely buildings and the handy location, this is very much a working farm where you’ll get the full farm experience. Owner Morag is very happy to give you a tour of all the goings-on, and you can meet, feed and pet the piglets, lambs, mini cows and donkeys while you're here. As well as all that, you'll also be able to throw yourselves into a proper rural camping setup, with spacious meadow pitches, a firepit area and simple facilities including drinking water, toilets and a shower. You're welcome to explore the woodland, paddle in the stream and generally have a fine time embracing nature. There are plenty of options nearby for walks, bike rides and horse riding, along with other activities like watersports and outdoor swimming.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: What a beautiful place to stay, we did not want to leave. The staff are so lovely and welcoming.
A beautiful chalk stream where you can safely paddle or lay in if you wanted. Crayfish nets provided by the campsite we had so much fun catching crayfish.
Kayaking along the river on a kayak included in the price to borrow.
Sheep and donkeys walking around all day where you can stroke them.
Pigs your allowed to feed.
Bunnys, guinea pigs and chicken we spend hours sitting with as they was just so lovely.
There are hammocks and swings throughout which was just absolutely lovely to chill out on.
We will definitely be back.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Beautiful views, loved the wild feel to this site. Farm animals all around, red kites soaring above. Morag and the lads and other lady was very accommodating, was made to feel at home! We had an amazing time at the camp site. Host very passionate about the future of the site. All four (2 kids 2 adults) loved visiting and will definitely be back to see the progress. Beautiful site with lots of potential! Work in progress but lots of potential and can’t wait to see the progress of this site! Mix of luxury camping and old school camping.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: This is a hidden gem located with easy access from London. The land is beautiful and feels pretty isolated from the roads nearby, so definitely has that nearly wild camping vibe. Located near a river, which adds to the view looking up towards the grand estate in the distance. Morag (the owner of the farm) also told us she has plans to bring the water levels back up for proper swimming/boating.

We also liked the fact that the site is small, so there won't be too many people camping there. We had about 4 other pitches when we were there, but it still felt like we had space to spread out.

The animals are also a sweet perk. They have donkeys and lambs roaming around the site who are very friendly. There is also a pen of pigs, and piglets (until they grow up).

Disliked: Nothing.
