  • Gloucestershire family campsite with Cotswold Hills views
  • A 15-minute drive to Cotswold Farm Park; 30 minutes to Blenheim Palace
  • Five minutes’ drive to Stow-on-the-Wold; bus service nearby
Along with a spacious grass camping ground (as one might expect of sporting pitches), Stow-on-the-Wold Rugby Club has some seriously eye-catching views of the Cotswold Hills. This site is in a fab location just outside the historic village of Stow-on-the Wold in Gloucestershire, making it a smashing spot for family rambles, touring and gallivanting all over the Cotswolds. From the hilltop pitches you can walk for miles on local footpaths without going near a road (thus making this a cracking base for cyclists too), and if you’re keen to get on the golf course, you can book a round at Naunton Downs Golf Club (10 minutes). Eager to do some city sightseeing but prefer to leave the vehicle behind? No worries, a local bus service leaving from the local village of Oddington (a short walk away) can whisk you off to theatreland in Stratford-upon-Avon (40 minutes) or the dreaming spires of Oxford (55 minutes). Back on site, simple facilities include showers, toilets and a wifi connection (around the clubhouse) so you can keep in touch with the folk back home. Stow (five minutes’ drive) has cafés, bars and a couple of small and handy stores for basics. For more amenities, the best stop is Moreton-in-Marsh (15 minutes) for markets, pubs, supermarkets and indie shops. It’s also got a mainline rail station with services to London.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Nice site quiet first night then multitude of van gangs arrived and fires on the path and blockade the footpath entrance, too many cars parked in the pitches. Far side of the field better and quieter. Kids play area. Walking distance to stow

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: The views

Disliked: I stopped here as I had been wild camping, and needed a shower, to refill water etc. The showers are a portacabin, first shower was cold, and the second scalding hot. The cubicles are tiny, as are the toilets and being a larger person , I had to squeeze in sideways to close the door. The price for a pitch with ehu is reasonable, but if you do not need it, I think it is rather expensive for a single traveller on a sloping grass pitch. I did not find the fresh water supply.
I also think to be cutting the grass on a ride on mower before 9am, coming right up to the caravan is not acceptable

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & I'm sorry you didin't appear to enjoy your stay. We have used the portakabin showers now for a number of years & many of the reviews below suggest most people are comfortable with them. The alternative was the showers in the rugby club changing room, which, although bigger are probably not as well looked after & more heavily used for training etc.
The showers all have hot/cold adjustments on them & are checked twice daily.
The costs are the lowest in the area & represent the facilites we offer, & our reveiws would suggest we are reasonable value.

I'm sorry the mowers disturbed you, the camp site is run entirly by volenteers & the maintenace has to be worked around working life, however we will endevour to ensure this dosen't happen again.

There are four fresh water points on the site, all of which are detailed in the site infomation available in the clubhouse & are reasonably obvious. Maybe a call to our clubhouse manager would have put you in the right direction.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the stay with us, we will do everything we can to improve our site.

Liked: Loved . It was quiet. We met a lovely lady who popped round to
Introduce herself . Local taxi guy Shaun was helpful and because we had no car we used him a few times during our stay . Bar was open a couple of times whilst we were there but we were slightly out of season . All in all we will definitely go back . Showers were great and so clean. Some reviews complained about them but we found them spotless .

Liked: Nice clean facilities, good club house when it’s open.

Disliked: Showers were fine but water pressure was a little low.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us... we're pleased you enjoyed your stay with us, & i'm sure the weather helped!

Unfortunatly we suffer a little from low water pressure at times as we are on top of the hill & the water supply is pumped, & can ebb & flow a little depending on other usage in the area. Most of the time its fine, i'm sorry you had a low point.

Many thanks again for staying with us & leaving a review.

Liked: Ok pricing
Friendly welcome and interaction with those running it.
Very clean shower and toilet blocks.
Easy to use toilet cassette waste point, ground level.
Fresh water tap.
Stunning views.
Easy access in and out of the site, also around the site.

Disliked: Grey water waste point not clearly marked, although we still don't know if we used what was supposed to have been the waste point... Looked like it might have been a storm drain.

Plots are slopping (as is most of the site), ramps are a must.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us& for leaving the review, we're very pleased you enjoyed your stay, with regards to the waste water disposal, the emptying point is signed & located just inside the entrance to the camp site area. It has a large green lid on so hopefully this is where you disposed of the waste. Its the only open drainage access in the camp site. The location is also detailed in the site infomation available in the clubhouse. Unfortunatly this web site won't let me upload a photo. We'll reveiw the signs & if we need to make it clearer we will.

Thanks for your comments, I hope to see you again in the future.
