  • Convenient location off the main road in Kibale National Park
  • Excellent spot for safaris, wildlife experiences and cultural tours
  • Restaurant and bar on site; spot wildlife around the property
Keen to see monkeys during your Uganda holiday? Little Monkey Camp, on the edge of Kibale National Park, has its name for a reason – guests often spot the primates from right here on the campground. There are 13 different primate species to spot in the national park – but it’s not all about the monkeys here. Other wildlife can be spotted around the camp, and there are various safaris and tours around the area for those who’d like to go birdwatching, seek out snakes or spot big mammals like elephants, buffalo and leopards. And, to give guests a deeper understanding of the area they’re staying in, it’s possible to organise cultural trips too – perhaps a coffee experience or a visit to a traditional healer. Just off the Fort Portal-Mbarara Road, this is a convenient spot for getting out to explore the area. And it’s a comfortable one too, with facilities including wifi, bathrooms and a restaurant with a bar. Barbecues and campfires are permitted for those of you who’d like to cook in the open air (or just keep warm), and massages can be organised if you need a bit of help to get properly relaxed.

Local attractions

With a range of ecosystems within its 296 square miles, Kibale National Park is the big draw here, of course. This park is known to have both one of the highest concentrations of primates in Africa, and the biggest diversity of species too – bring your binoculars and you may spot chimpanzees, red colobus monkeys and blue monkeys, plus 10 other species. The best outings nearby will depend on the season, so have a chat with the folk on site to organise things like chimpanzee trekking, snake tours, birdwatching trips and butterfly experiences, as well as general safari outings to see the park’s big beasts. Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary (five minutes’ drive), just outside the national park, is another excellent spot to visit, with nature tours helping guests to spot birds, primates and other species. While you’re here, how about learning about the local culture as well? There are various tours available – from coffee farm tours and apiary visits to experiences with a traditional healer – where you’ll not only find out more about life here but also contribute to the local community.
