  • Peaceful adults-only farm site 15 minutes’ drive from Amarante
  • Less than an hour's drive from Porto and Guimarães
  • Well-kept gardens with mountain views and next to a forest
Hoping to head back from your hols with tales of peace and quiet, telling folk how you managed a mix of country stays and city strolls? Source the material for such a script with a stay at Land Story, a relaxed rural site on a farm on the edge of the village of Aldeia and 15 minutes’ drive from Amarante. The story here is indeed one of the land – the forest, mountains, orchards and vineyards that surround the site, as well as the gorgeous gardens within the gates. Walks and bike rides are fine ways to get out and see a good chunk of it, but it's equally rewarding to settle right there, open a bottle of something (ideally something from the surrounding Douro valley) and grill your dinner among these views and/or sunsets. Life on site moves at a pretty peaceful pace, partly due to the absence of anyone under the age of 18 (sorry, kids – grownups just need their own space sometimes). A lengthy list of facilities wouldn't really fit that vibe, of course, so the folk here have instead focused on kitting the place with all the essentials: a launderette, washing-up area, showers and a free wifi service (so you can start sharing your stories with the world…) And what of those city outings? Well, they might take you to potter around Porto, Guimarães or Braga, all of which involve less than an hour on the motorway... or take the train from the nearby station to Porto, for a comfy, cool and cheap journey into the city in an hour.

What customers say

Great valley views & a peaceful vibe. Clean showers, communal kitchen. Friendly owner. Watch out for narrow access roads & tight spots for bigger rigs. Some noise from dogs, basic facilities. Porto transport not as easy as flagged.

Power optional grass and earth tent or motorhome site

Liked Views along the valley
And from pitch

Disliked Access - to the site, (roads so narrow and windy) onto site, onto pitch
(None suitable for motorhome)
You need to be a very confident driver- ideally not of a motorhome
Toilet/shower block primitive!
Water supply simply by hose pipe
Only one single EHU point for complete site
Expensive for minimal facilities
Advertised EASY transport into Porto - in reality 7km from nearest station,(difficult to walk there, no bus) only one train an hour, journey to city an hour - not our idea of EASY!!
2 filthy dogs running around
Sat chatting late at night when out of the darkness the owner shouted ‘good night’ No idea how long he’d been there - felt as if someone spying on us - spooky!
Would NOT recommend for line female travellers
Basic site might be what some are looking for - not for us
Booked 3 nights (to go into Porto) stayed just the one
Not on our list to return to !!!

From the manager: O casal mais desagradável que recebemos desde sempre. Péssimo comportamento e atitude pessoal. Mal educados e agressivos. Barulhentos durante todo o tempo que aqui estiveram o que nos obrigou a diversas interações. Incomodaram todos os outros campistas. Foram convidados a sair sob ameaça de sermos obrigados a chamar a polícia.

Really nice site with friendly owner and amazing view.

Power optional grass and earth tent or motorhome site

Power optional grass and earth tent or motorhome site

Liked The view of the mountain is great
It’s quiet apart from the frogs!
Lovely little meadow bit in the middle with hammocks
Two very friendly little dogs!

Disliked We are in a lwb Vw crafter access is very tight and on the way out we ruptured our underslung water tank on the exit leaving the site nobody’s fault but just be careful is we were going very slowly to get around the corner
Access road is very narrow as is the site
The site also feels a little unloved

Local attractions

Not content viewing the mountains from afar? Set off to the Serra do Marão, 45 minutes’ drive east, to clamber among the granite peaks. Rather flatter (thankfully) is the excellent Tâmega eco-route, a 35-kilometre bike path running along the route of a disused railway line from Amarante and taking in vineyard, forest and river views along the way. Close-ups of those Tâmega river views can be had on a cruise or canoe trip from Amarante (15 minutes), or while putting your way around the town's scenic golf course. If it was the vineyard views that took your fancy, head south for 45 minutes or so to sip vinho verde at the wineries along the banks of the Douro river. More sipping is in store at the famed port cellars of Porto (50 minutes' drive), but don't get so tipsy that you miss a wander around the colourful Cais da Ribeira area and getting an eyeful of the Eiffel-designed bridge. There’s a splendid selection of old buildings to see here too, as there are in Guimarães (45 minutes) and the ancient city of Braga (an hour).
