Need a break from the pace of your normal life? At Camping de Oude Rijn, a five-minute drive – or short cycle – from the neighbouring town of Ter Aar in South Holland, it's time to slow it all down with some laidback activities. What a spot: the site is only 25 minutes' drive away from the Keukenhof flower garden and 45 minutes from Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. Golfing fans, listen up too: the greens at Zeegersloot golf club are five minutes' drive from the site, where wannabe pros can do some practising on the driving range, take lessons and play their way around 27 holes, then thoroughly sample the eats and drinks of the bar-restaurant. Anglers can throw out a line from the fishing piers at Zegerplas, under 10 minutes’ drive from the site, and reel in perch, roach, bream or pike. Zegerplas not fulfilling your fishing dreams? The Kromme Aar waterway or the further afield Noordeinderplas might tick the right boxes. Back on site, cook up some fish on the barbecue (bring your own, please) and tuck in beside a campfire. If you didn't have any luck with the rod and reel, there are plenty of shops in Ter Aar to pick up the essentials.

Great spot, loads of space, and the hosts are legends. Location and vibe are top-notch. Downsides? The loos are a bit knackered and grubby, with many saying they're past their prime. Site's a bit rough around the edges, could do with a spruce-up. Basic facilities are okay for a quick trip, especially if you've got your own van.

Liked Abgeschieden und im Grünen, nicht viel los. Duschen, WC`s, Spülmöglichkeit und Spielplatz vorhanden.

Disliked Alles sehr einfach gehalten, nicht besonders sauber und etwas "verwahrlost" ...sowohl der Hof als auch die Sanitäranlagen wirken etwas lieblos und könnten mal eine Renovierung gebrauchen...

Liked Het was de enige camping in de omgeving die plek had voor 1 nacht en wij moesten hier vanwege een activiteit vlakbij overnachten.
De eigenaren waren vriendelijk en de vaste gasten ook.
We hebben lekker geslapen en geen overlast gehad.

Disliked Er zitten veel mensen die hier noodgedwongen permanent in een (oude)caravan wonen. Hierdoor ziet het er niet aantrekkelijk uit.
Alles doet oud en vies aan. Er is geen werkende kraan om je chemische toilet te reinigen.
De camping ligt op een prima plek al is het wel lastig te vinden. Je moet een weg in met verboden toegang uitgezonderd bestemmingsverkeer.
Met een flinke opknapbeurt zou dit een geweldige camping kunnen worden maar dan moet het tarief denk omhoog en willen mensen dan nog komen met zoveel permanente bewoners ?

Liked Small, relaxed and friendly. Lovely location next to canal, cheap and basic. Small play park but perfect for kids of all ages. Ideal stop gap

Liked Nice grass pitch. We found one nearby a connection point for electricity.
Nice with the chickens at the site.
Cheap.

Disliked Small pitch, 28 sq. meters. Car to be parked at separate parking space.
Very few connecting points for electricity. Most campers need veeeery long cables.
Toilet service station water hose not available.
Overall impression was that the place is nit maintained for a very long time. Broken outdoor furniture in barbecue areas.
Vegetation taking over the place.

Liked Ruhiger Platz mit viel Platz im Grünen. Nette Betreiber.

Disliked Die Toiletten, Duschen und Waschräume sind zwar sauber aber mächtig in die Jahre gekommen. Restaurants und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sind ca.2 km entfernt...wenn man das als negativ ansehen möchte.

Camping de Oude Rijn is well placed for those who want the peace and quiet of the countryside but also days out on urban adventures: the site is in a central location within 45 minutes' drive of The Hague, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. On rural days, take a trip to Nieuwkoopse Plassen nature reserve (10 minutes' drive) for boat trips, water safaris, canoeing, walking and birdwatching, or head to the Netherlands’ oldest botanical gardens at Hortus Botanicus (half an hour) to see what a 16th-century garden looked like. If you’re staying at Camping de Oude Rijn during the spring, a trip to the tulip garden at Keukenhof (25 minutes) is an absolute must. Travel buddies getting on your nerves? Never fear, there’s a non-violent way to fix everything: climb inside some plastic bubbles and let your rage out with a game of bubble football at BumperFootball (25 minutes) in Leiden. If that whets your appetite for more activity, waterski, wakeboard or kneeboard at Wet ‘n Wild (10 minutes) at Zegerplas. There are plenty of theme parks in the area for kids and adults to explore: take a stroll through the history of the Netherlands – from prehistory to the Romans and on to the Middle Ages – at Archeon Museumpark, 10 minutes from Camping de Oude Rijn, or head to the amusement parks at Drievliet (half an hour) or Duinrell (half an hour) to raise your adrenaline on the rides.
