For an outdoorsy trip that’s not too far from Gelderland cities, Camping Het Vossenhol sure is an attractive option. For one, it’s got plenty to tempt families, from car-free grounds where kids can play carefree to family-friendly amenities such as a playhouse and playground, table tennis and football. For two, it's tucked into the forests of Ermelo and just a short drive away from Veluwe forests should you want to try spotting wild boar with a ranger or go hiking, mountain biking or cycling. Harderwijk, a riverfront city, is just 15 minutes’ drive away, and a riverfront beach for windsurfing and unwinding is 20 minutes’ drive away. For those little tasks like picking up groceries, there are grocery shops in Ermelo, 20 minutes' walk away (as well as restaurants). Plus, just a short drive away, there are plenty more eateries and bars for beer, wine or whisky tasting. Back at base, this small family site has lots of space and nature. An indoor swimming pool with a retractable roof, slide and a water playground is open during the high season. Guests can tend to alfresco meals in the kota grill. Kids should also like roaming the forest. In the way of practical features, Camping Het Vossenhol has a launderette and a heated amenities block.

  • The indoor swimming pool is open between 15/07 and 07/09.
  • No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.
  • Reception is unmanned after 5 p.m.. Please inform the campground while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time so that the team can provide information about your unit/site.
  • Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.
  • Fires, barbecues and/or firepits will not be permitted in dry, windy and/or hot weather conditions.
  • Unfortunately the water slide is currently closed.

Fully-serviced grass motorhome site

Liked: Nice spacious pitches and the site was quiet when we visited.
We managed one swim before the good 20m pool closed for the season.
Good sanitary facilities which were spotless.
(These are mixed sex which some might not like at busier times)
A reasonable 20 mins walk into town where there are good restaurants and easy access to cycling and walking routes.
All pitches seemed fully serviced with water, waste and electricity.

Disliked: No private basins for personal washing.
Laundry requires a token from reception which wasn’t open many hours in the day.

Local attractions

Shopping, picnicking, cycling, boating? If any of those four activities take your fancy, bundle your group in the car and park up in the Hanseatic city of Harderwijk (15 minutes’ drive). More cities are within driving distance of Camping Het Vossenhol. Elburg (35 minutes), another Hanseatic city, has a small old town, a splendid assortment of museums and a scattering of nice restaurants along the riverfront. Amersfoort (35 minutes) has medieval innards; get stuck into activities like canal cruises and brewery tours or simply stroll around and admire the old buildings. How about a two-in-one day trip? After cruising along the canal in Apeldoorn (40 minutes), you could take off onto the cycling trails in Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe (40 minutes), a national park with drifting sands and wildlife such as roe deer, mouflons and wild hog. Perhaps you want to take the kids out for a little clambering in the trees. Klimbos Garderen (20 minutes) has treetop obstacle courses and it's not too far away.
