  • Well-equipped family site on the Silver Coast of southern Tuscany
  • Capalbio Scalo five minutes’ drive; Grosseto half an hour
  • Two swimming pools, playground, kids’ club and pizzeria
Having the name of the Silver Coast in the name is very apt for this site – Camping Village Costa d’Argento is only about two kilometres from the nearest beach on this lovely stretch of coastline. Easily accessed via the SS1 highway, this family-friendly spot is five minutes’ drive from Capalbio Scalo, from where the site team are happy to pick you up if you are travelling by public transport. Just as conveniently, a shuttle service departs from the site every half-hour heading to a nearby beach (a five-minute drive, but the shuttle saves you the hassle of having to look for a parking space). For those times when you're not out at the beach, there's no shortage of facilities to keep you entertained on site. Children have a playground, a dedicated pool and a kids’ club with organised activities; there’s a large pool for adults, too, surrounded by tall pine trees, plus sports pitches including volleyball and tennis courts. Holidays are nothing without a good supply of food, of course – and that's easily sorted while you're staying at Camping Village Costa d’Argento, which has a pizzeria and a poolside kiosk, plus a well-stocked food shop. There are several more restaurants dotted along the nearby coastline and places to eat in Ansedonia (10 minutes’ drive). Hoping to explore a bit further? This is a sweet spot from which to explore southern Tuscany, taking in lakes, beaches, wildlife hotspots and historic sights as you go.

Local attractions

There’s some real variety along this stretch of coastline – seek out sandy beaches like Bagni di Domiziano (20 minutes’ drive), take walks along craggy clifftops or hire a boat in Porto Santo Stefano (25 minutes) to access tucked-away coves. Whichever way you choose to explore you'll be treated to some stunning views, with crystal-clear blue waters at the fore. Wildlife enthusiasts will definitely want to take their binoculars along to Oasi WWF Lago di Burano (five minutes) and the thriving wetlands at Oasi WWF Naturale di Orbetello (15 minutes) – both are great birdwatching areas. If heritage and art are more your interests, take a stroll around the Roman ruins at Ansedonia (10 minutes), see Niki de Saint Phalle’s sculptures at The Tarot Garden (10 minutes) and visit the archaeological museum in Tarquinia (half an hour). For other days out, you could go hiking around Monte Argentario (25 minutes) or have a wander around Grosseto (half an hour), taking in the cathedral, the city walls and Piazza Dante Alighieri – and making stops for lunch/coffee/gelato along the way.
