Keen to explore all corners of Florence, but not eager to give up on the idea of a green, outdoorsy base? Here's an excellent solution: hu Firenze Camping in Town is only five kilometres from the centre of Florence, but set in a green, wooded park on the banks of the Arno river, with a splendid view of the hills surrounding Florence. It has access to the city via two easy, convenient routes: grab a shuttle or public bus from the bus stop a few metres away from the site entrance or get into the city by following the riverside cycle path on foot or by bicycle. Adult and kids’ bikes can be hired on site. Cool off back at base with a dip in one of the pools (open during high season only; a most welcome sight on a hot day in the city): dive into the main pool for an energetic swim, or have a more gentle splash about in the leisure pool, with fountains and other fun things to mess about with. Poolside basking is also an option, either on the loungers around the sun terrace or with drinks on the bar terrace that handily overlooks the water. And it’s not just drinks on offer at the bar… it’s also open in the mornings for a breakfast buffet (extra charge) and later serves up a menu of Italian classics at lunch and dinner, including some particularly fine pizzas. There’s also a very well-stocked mini market on site.

Great spot for Florence! Clean modern facilities, ace pool & restaurant. Pitches mostly good, though a few reckon they're a bit snug or sloped. Some noise/wasp grumbles but overall, top notch – many keen to come back!

Liked Gut gelegen, mit dem Fahrrad kommt man gut in die Innenstadt. Versorgungshaus sehr sauber und alle Mitarbeiter freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Restaurant am Platz ist sehr zu empfehlen.

Disliked Leider sind die meisten Plätze zu klein, wir mussten wie die anderen auch schräg einparken. Einfahrt bis 0 Uhr und Ausfahrt ab 6 was gewisse Unruhe bringt.

Disliked Sanitärhaus zu weit. Es fehlen Verbindungswege zwischen den Reihen. Wir war bei dem Haus im hinteren Bereich.

Liked Amazing pools and children’s pool with lots of sun lounges. Shower block, larger pitches, lots of washing machines, near bus stop to Florence 25 minutes away

Disliked Not enough washing up facilities and cramped. Sometimes noisy as it’s a large site

Liked Wir waren 3 Tage auf diesem sehr gepflegten Campingplatz und haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Die Sanitäranlagen waren immer sauber, Duschen und Toiletten sind reichlich vorhanden. Die Poolanlage ist ebenfalls sehr schön angelegt und in gepflegten Zustand. Im Restaurant haben wir sehr gut gegessen.

Liked Ein gepflegter Campingplatz, ideal gelegen um Firenze zu besuchen. Schade war, das unser Platz kein Wasser hatte(leider kein Platz mit verfügbar). Der Zug war für mich ein wenig störend. Personal war freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Liked Easy to reach from the motorway.
Swimming pools are excellent.
Facilities are spotless.
Pitches are a good size and pretty level.
Location excellent for Florence with very easy access by bus, train and cycle.

Disliked A bit noisy one night but otherwise nothing to dislike really.

Route directions

The site is approximately five kilometres from the Firenze Sud exit on the A1/E35 motorway. It is one kilometre from the Firenze Rovezzano train station, which is well-connected to Florence's central Santa Maria Novella station. Public bus line 14 stops a few metres from the site entrance, on Via Generale Dalla Chiesa. From the centre of Florence, you can take the bus (heading towards Girone) from the front of Santa Maria Novella station.

Local attractions

It’d be a fine idea to plan several days out in central Florence, allowing you to see all the top sights without having to race around too much. The Uffizi gallery can fill a day on its own, and you’ll no doubt also want to be seeing the cathedral (which had the world’s largest dome at the time of its design), the Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Vecchio, Giotto’s bell tower, the medieval Santa Croce church, Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia Gallery… All that history and art can become a little overwhelming if crammed into a short space of time, so make sure to factor in a bit of downtime – perhaps with a cruise down the Arno river on a traditional wooden boat or a stroll through the gorgeous Boboli and Bardini gardens (particularly fine places to be around sunset for their city skyline views). For a change of scenery, it’ll take you around an hour to get to Siena or Arezzo by car. Similarly, the wineries around San Gimignano are about an hour’s drive away.
