Beach time? Pool time? Nights out? Visits to ancient monuments? They’re all on the menu for guests staying at Camping Golden Sunset, so you can really tailor your itinerary to your own personal tastes when you’re staying here. You can certainly put a good chunk of beach time on your schedule here if you like, as this site on the edge of Alissos is only a couple of minutes’ stroll from the shoreline for time spent on a quiet and undeveloped beach flanked by trees. And if the beach doesn’t draw you in, how about some pool hours instead? The aquatic complex here is a pretty special one, with two outdoor pools, a Jacuzzi and several waterslides, plus sunbeds and umbrellas on the surrounding terrace. Other ways to keep everyone entertained on site include a football field, a tennis court, a basketball court and a beach volleyball court (plus wifi for those who’d rather sit and scroll for a bit). Things are particularly lively here in high season, when you can join in with activities including pool parties, Greek dancing lessons, cooking lessons and wine-tasting sessions. Excursions like hiking and paragliding are on offer sometime too, and there’s a shuttle bus that can take you off to other nearby beaches. For other outings, it’s about a 25-minute drive to Patras for historic sights and nightlife, and there are plenty of other ancient attractions to visit around the area. Need a meal to keep you going through all this? Camping Golden Sunset has a restaurant on site, plus a bar and a mini market for those doing self-catering meals.

  • The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/07 and 31/08 (subject to weather conditions).

Liked: Das Essen ist super und auch der Aquapark. Es ist schön ruhig da.

Disliked: Da gibt es keine Waschmaschine, Geschäft und Boutique womit Werbung gemacht wird nicht vorhanden . Die Sanitäranlagen könnte sauberer und moderner sein.

Local attractions

A day out in Patras (25 minutes’ drive) is a good choice – there are lots of historical sites to visit, including St Pandokratoras (a dead ringer for Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia), the Odeion amphitheatre and the castle, plus an excellent archaeological museum. Other history-tinged days out nearby might take you to Mega Spileon Monastery (an hour and a quarter), Agia Lavra Monastery (an hour and 25 minutes) or Kalavrita (an hour and a half), where you can ride the rack railway and learn about the Kalavrita massacre. If you’d really like to immerse yourselves in Greek history, factor in day trips to places like Epidaurus, Delphi and Athens, all of which are within a couple of hours’ drive. A particularly lovely experience nearby is a visit to the Cave Lakes in Kastria (an hour and 45 minutes), where you can explore 13 underground lakes with a waterfall and some intriguing rock formations.
