  • Well-maintained family campsite in the Poitou-Charentes countryside
  • Futuroscope 45 minutes’ drive and Puy du Fou 90 minutes
  • Pool and pétanque court; La Mothe-Saint-Héray 10 minutes’ walk
Stopping over on a long journey north or south along the A10 motorway? Or perhaps you're planning a fuller family holiday out in the fresh air? Whatever brings you to this part of the Poitou-Charentes countryside, you’ll have found a lovely base at Camping du Fouilloux. This peaceful site is set on leafy private land 10 minutes’ walk from central La Mothe-Saint-Héray, and the spacious and level pitches are well set up for family holidays, with access to a swimming pool, a secure playground, a trampoline (for ages 2 to 12) and games of volleyball, table tennis, table football and pétanque. More activity awaits them in the surrounding area, with things like sailing courses and tennis courses available nearby in the summer as well as forest strolls, horse riding and canoe trips. Accessing the site should be pretty straightforward as it's less than 10 minutes' drive from exit 31 of the A10 motorway. This handy location also means you'll be in a great position for outings to places like Futuroscope theme park and the spectacular outdoor shows at Puy du Fou (both of which should earn you a few brownie points with the kids). More locally, the village of La Mothe-Saint-Héray is a handy place for supplies from its baker, butcher and delicatessen, and it's also got a couple of bars for a relaxed drink or two.

What customers say

A lovely, tidy site with heaps of open space and a natural vibe. Staff were friendly and helpful, and it's a cruisy walk to the village shops. Some showers were out of order or a bit old, but generally clean. Pool was open but unheated. Might need longer hook-up leads, and water’s only at the wash block. Wine tasting was a hit!

Unpowered grass and earth tent site

Liked That we had a full pitch, even though we just had a hikers 2 man tent. The friendliness of the staff and onsite bar.

Disliked Noisy neighbours (but not really the campsites fault)

Powered grass and earth caravan site

Liked Showers were fab and the site was very clean organised and tidy. Two toilet & shower blocks so never had to wait to use any of the facilities.

Pool was great and the children enjoyed it plenty of sunbeds chairs and parasols available. Fabulous to see the pool having a safety fence all the way round.

Grass was lovely and kept well on the pitch and all the usual facilities ie water supply electricity were on par.

Staff were competent and friendly even had a wee glass of wine on the last night compliments of the lady who ran the site.

The site has been set up to make it welcoming for people to mingle with lots of different things to do volleyball, table tennis, board games.

Had a great time here and would definitely recommend and visit again!

Local attractions

How might you like to explore the local area? There are plenty of open green spaces and forest to wander through nearby, or you can try horse riding (15 minutes’ drive) or boating and kayaking along La Sèvre Niortaise (five minutes). It’s also possible to hire bikes on site if you'd like to pedal along the local pathways. While you're exploring, you may like to seek out historic spots like the ancient Dolmen des Sept Chemins or take a wander around the castle and water gardens at L’Orangerie (both five minutes' drive). Niort (half an hour) is another place that's packed with history – look out for the medieval donjon, the Renaissance Pilori, the Gothic Notre-Dame church and the 19th-century market hall made of steel and glass. If that's not enough to get the kids excited by history, take them along to Puy du Fou (an hour and a half) where various eras of the past are brought to life in epic shows. And at the opposite end of the spectrum, the very latest technology will give you a glimpse into the future at Futuroscope (45 minutes).
