It's free, quick and easy!
- Glamping site on the banks of the Seugne river in Jonzac
- Around an hour's drive from the Charente-Maritime coast
- Fully furnished chalets with kitchen, TV and outdoor seating
Luxuriate at Les Logis de la Seugne, a peaceful glamping site in Saint-Germain-de-Lusignan on the outskirts of the Charente-Maritime town of Jonzac. This site’s a top spot if you’d like to be close to amenities, activities and attractions – shops, restaurants and historic sights are all a couple of kilometres away in the centre of town.
Prefer not to go that far? It’s also possible to walk to a handful of shops and bars within 10 minutes or so. Return afterwards to your smart wooden chalet, a fully-furnished and insulated setup kitted out with a TV, bathroom and double bedroom with topnotch bedding.
But that’s not all… the kitchen corner also has a washing machine and microwave, and there’s an internet connection for those who'd like to hook up to their gadgetry. Each chalet has a wooden deck too, with outdoor seating for meals and drinks on fine days, and water and electricity are included in the rental price.
As the name suggests, the Seugne river passes just by the site, meaning guests can fish close by or just take a riverside wander. Fans of submerging themselves are well set here and in the local area too – a swimming lake, Les Antilles de Jonzac aquatic centre and natural thermal baths are all about five minutes away by car and the coast’s around an hour’s drive away.

Local attractions
One thing’s for sure when you’re visiting this region: you’re going to want to check out a castle. Chug along to Château de Jonzac, five minutes’ drive, to gaze at its turreted, fortress-like architecture.
Of course, you can’t come to the Charente-Maritime without stopping by Cognac Bertrand either (10 minutes); tours are held at this liquor-making complex, and brandy tastings are part of the package.
If this piques your interest about the area’s other longstanding customs, head to Clion’s Artisanal and Rural Museum (10 minutes) and learn the age-old traditions of making wine, barrels and butter.
Tempted to loll about at the seaside…? Royan, at the Gironde estuary’s mouth, is an hour away and is home to sandy beaches such as the sweeping La Grande Conche. Take yourself into town to peer at Belle Epoque villas, then head to La Rochelle (an hour and 20 minutes), to totter down alleys flanked by 17th-century archways or along the pretty Vieux Port.
