  • Peaceful site in Vieux-Condé in Nord-Pas-de-Calais
  • Condé-sur-l’Escaut and Étang de Chabaud-Latour 10 minutes’ drive
  • Covered barbecue area; local products and honey made on site
Sometimes, simple is best, and that’s certainly the case at Les Sevrettes in Nord-Pas-de-Calais. This peaceful site makes a great base for fun-filled family breaks with heaps to do and see locally, or as an overnight stop on your way into Belgium and beyond (the border is 10 minutes’ drive away). Equipped with electric hook-up, the pitches are on a meadow sheltered by trees, with a few picnic tables dotted around its periphery. No-frills facilities cover portable toilets, a solar shower, off-road parking spaces and a covered terrace with outdoor seating and a barbecue, but do not include electricity. You’re free to wander around the property, which has a vegetable garden, ornamental lawns, a chicken coop and bee hives, keeping an eye out for deer grazing as you stroll. The site also has League for the Protection of Birds Refuge status, so please respect any nesting birds and indeed any other wildlife you may encounter. Fresh eggs and local products (plus honey made on site) are available to buy on site, and there’s a supermarket and bakery within five minutes by car, plus all the dining options in historic Condé-sur-l’Escaut (10 minutes’ drive). Cyclists and hikers have easy access to the site from the GR121, running between the Belgian border and the Côte d’Opale, and the GRP Nord-Pas de Calais Mining Basin, which takes in many of this former industrial area’s relics and remains. The giant sequoia trees in Forêt Domaniale de Bonsecours are only a five-minute drive away, too. To get out and about in the fresh air, you can go fishing on the Étang d’Amaury (10 minutes’ drive) or head for the Étang de Chabaud-Latour (10 minutes), where there are play areas, lakeside hiking paths and cycling trails and a leisure centre that rents out watersports equipment during peak periods.

Powered grass and gravel caravan site

Liked What a wonderful time we had! Marc and pascal could not have been more welcoming, giving us walnuts from their tree and their own jam from their fruit trees, even vegetables from their plot! It is so peaceful with the sounds of nature all around it reallly feels like rural France.
If you want a peaceful retreat with wonderful cycle paths nearby to explore the lake this place is for you. We were sorry we only booked two days but we will definitely be back next year.

Liked Quirky little pitches in back garden.
Really friendly welcome by the owner who greeted us as soon as we drove on the driveway and showed us round everything.

Had a dog who kept popping by to say hello. We were the only people staying so had the full facilities to ourselves.
Good luck and thankyou for your service, we left some beers in your fridge. Thanks.

Local attractions

Étang de Chabaud-Latour is surrounded by former mining relics, including the landmark Fosse Ledoux - Puits n°1 mine shaft (15 minutes' drive). Sitting on the confluence of the Haine and Escaut (Scheldt) rivers, historic Condé-sur-l’Escaut (10 minutes) is just the spot for a little gentle sightseeing. Its ancient heart is liberally stuffed with medieval gateways and grand mansions, all guarded by ramparts and fortifications upgraded by Vauban in the late 17th century. Right on the border with Belgium, the soaring Notre-Dame de Bonsecours Basilica (also 10 minutes) is a Gothic-era treasure with jewel-like stained-glass windows. Keen to explore two countries for the price of one? Hop over the Belgian border for forays on foot into the Plaines de l’Escaut Natural Park (10 minutes), or to tour all the industrial heritage around Bernissart (15 minutes). You might also like to drop by the moated Château de Beloeil (25 minutes), a 15th-century gem with opulent gilded interiors and landscaped water gardens.
