  • Eco-friendly forest site over 3 hectares, between two national parks
  • A few minutes' drive from Villecomtal; Aveyron info at reception
  • Pool, bar, library and kids'/adults' amenities in a greenhouse block
You’ll be tickled pink with a stay at Glamping Terre Rouge. For this most excellent Averyon site sits on three handsome hectares deep in a forest, tucked into peaceful countryside between the Causses du Quercy and Grands Causses Natural Regional Park for weeks’ worth of outdoor days. Forests critters are likely to be happy here too: the dedicated eco-conscious team at Glamping Terre Rouge run the site on the ethos that all lives are respected and protected, so take care to leave habitats as they are so that wildlife can flourish. Energy saving, water pressure reducers, solar lighting, wood burning and waste sorting are all looked after at the site too and guests are welcome to join in with the eco-friendly efforts. All this doesn’t mean skimping on the essentials, as alongside the eco vibe is a well-maintained, comfy – and slightly unusual – setup – is this perhaps the only site in all of France where you can soap up in a greenhouse shower…? These bright and airy amenities have loads of hot water for guests' use, as well as a shower and toilet cabin with disabled access; a kids’ area with changing table, shower, sink and toilet, and a dishwasher and washing machine to ensure crockery and clothes are as squeaky clean as your good self. Another greenhouse is home to the Glamping Terre Rouge reception, the go-to spot for device charging, wifi, bread orders, takeaways and local tips, and to the site bar, with library, stove and regional wines: those three last seem to go very well together indeed... Outside, a pool is to hand for dips. Terre Rouge is just over two kilometres from its local commune of Villecomtal (a few minutes’ drive or about 35 minutes’ walk for an average ambler). Tourist info is available at reception so you can leaf through what to do in the area; the site team also arranges regular tours and excursions.

Safari tent (four person, forest)

Liked Nous avons apprécié le calme des lieux, l’accueil ainsi que le logement.
Simple mais tout y est pour un séjour sans stress.
Le plouf quotidien dans la piscine ajoute un plus non négligeable

Local attractions

Ask the site team or pick up ideas in the Villecomtal tourist office (open in July and August) for days out among local trails, spectacularly scenic villages, Averyon cuisine and canoeing and paddleboarding on local lakes and rivers. By car, plenty of options are within a 30-kilometre radius of the site: a must-see is the medieval hillside town of Conques (35 minutes’ drive) with streets so narrow that it’s best to arrive on foot. The same distance south, the small city of Rodez is famed for its sixth-century cathedral and its many events including Estivada, the Occitan festival held over several days in summer. Hiking tours leave from the site.
