  • Family site on the edge of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park
  • A 30-minute drive to Béziers, and 50 minutes to Mediterranean beaches
  • Pools, bar and dining, with sporting activities and entertainment
Set on seven hectares dotted by mature trees, Camping L’Oliveraie is a family-oriented site on the edge of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park. It’s in the Hérault region, well placed for trips to the mountains of the Massif Central or Mediterranean beaches. Thoughtful family amenities include a paddling pool next to the main swimming pool and sun deck, an inflatable climbing course and play areas for children under 12. Kids can wear themselves out playing ping pong, volleyball or tennis, and there’s a games room with table football and pinball machines. In July and August, a sports club can keep teenagers and kids busy, as well as entertainment every evening – live music, magicians or karaoke – and themed dinners showcasing local specialities like mussels and chips or paella every Friday. You can rustle up food back at your accommodation – there’s a food market in Laurens (five minutes’ drive) every Thursday morning – but there’s so much offered on site you don’t really have to pick up a pan. In high season, fresh bread and pastries are available daily at the handy food shop, and there’s a snack bar to keep everyone fed and watered during the day. At night, the wood-fired oven sparks up and it’s pizzas all round. And if you’re not feeling sociable, takeaway pizzas, chips and burgers are on tap too. Other amenities include a reading corner and library at reception, a wifi connection and washing machines (small extra charge) as well as fridge-, cot- and mountain-bike rental (deposit payable for each).

Power optional concrete and grass site

Liked: Pleasant environment, swimming pool which was big and suitable for exercise, play and simply cooling off alike. Other sports facilities such as tennis, beach volleyball and football were also good as were the children's play areas and kids' club.
Suitable for a long stay with good clothes washing and other personal care facilities.
The site is within 35-40mins drive of the Mediterranean beaches with some good local attractions and shops nearby.
There was a nice short walk of 2km to the village of Laurens.
We were welcomed by French fellow campers as well as some Brits who had been staying for 4 weeks and are regular visitors.

Disliked: We have a larger (8m) caravan and many of the pitches were too small to accommodate us or had olive trees in awkward places, so we had to reject our allocated pitch in favour of a bigger one. There are some very tight turns on the site roads and we had to unhook our caravan to get it around a corner and when leaving, drive up the incoming side of the road, as it was an easier turn than the outgoing side

From the manager: Bonjour,
Cordialement

Disliked: Cold shower block. No exterior doors to building, so open to the elements.

Local attractions

There’s masses to do close to the campsite, with paintballing, go-karting and hiking in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park all within 10 minutes’ drive, and you can go rock scrambling in the deep Gorges d’Heric (30 minutes) for a wild swim in naturally formed rock pools. Pack the kids into the car and head for sandy Med beaches around the Etang de Thau lake (one hour’s drive). Plage Richelieu and Le Môle beaches have soft sand and shallow waves, with the added bonus that they’re both near the thrill rides at Luna Park (all 50 minutes). If you’re keen to explore inland, the riverside town of Lamalou-les-Bains (15 minutes) is known for thermal baths and spa treatments, and it’s the departure point for hiking in the rugged Caroux hills, while Béziers (30 minutes) sits on the Canal du Midi, with interactive exhibits at the seven-lock Fonserannes flight nearby.
