- Cosy wooden lodges in a lakeside setting in Haute-Saône
- Belfort 20 minutes' drive away; 40 minutes to Plateau des Mille Étangs
- Fishing on site, plus lake-view terrace for each lodge
How might you fancy spending some of your holiday time sitting out on your private terrace looking out over a calm lake view with a glass of something in your hand?
If that sounds like an agreeable activity, get yourselves along to Domaine de Chatebier, a rural Haute-Saône site where the cosy wooden lodges look out over a 10-acre lake. With 25 acres of natural grounds to its name, this is a peaceful place indeed – it’s likely you’ll be able to while away many an hour here quietly looking out for wildlife in the trees, strolling around the lake or settling in to fish for tench and black bass (extra charge for fishing, payable on site).
Each lodge has a floor space of 20 square metres, spread across two levels, and has been kitted out with all the essential furniture – there’s a double bed and two twin beds, plus a kitchenette and a bathroom with shower, toilet and double sink. Heating is provided, as are sheets, duvets and toilet paper, but please note you’ll need to bring towels and kitchen crockery (along with anything else you’d like to add to make the place feel like home).
Out on the terrace you’ll have a table and four chairs, and if you fancy a change of scenery you can head out to one of the gazebos around the grounds, each of which has lighting and plancha sockets, for a cosy alfresco meal. Supplies for your meals are available in the local village of Frahier-et-Chatebier (five minutes’ drive), or you can go a little further into Châlonvillars for a bigger supermarket.

Local attractions
If you’d like a different lake view for a while, there are plenty to choose from nearby. Perhaps set off for a walk/bike ride along the shores of Lac de Malsaucy (15 minutes’ drive) or head up to walk through a watery landscape in the Plateau des Mille Étangs (40 minutes). Meanwhile, to see some of what lies beneath ground, pay a visit to the copper mine at Le Thillot (50 minutes).
Belfort (20 minutes) is a nice place for a stroll around the historic citadel and a visit to the cathedral. For a different take on church architecture, head the other way to Notre Dame du Haut (20 minutes), designed by the famed Le Corbusier. Château Montbéliard (25 minutes) is another impressive building, and there’s lots more lovely architecture to see on a walk around Mulhouse (55 minutes) – plus a zoo and a great automobile museum.
Closer to home, the Musée de L'Aventure Peugeot (25 minutes) and Parc Aventure dans les arbres (35 minutes) are both good places for an afternoon out with the family.
