  • Glamping site at the foot of the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun
  • On the edge of Visoko, 40 minutes' drive from Sarajevo
  • Cosy cabins with access to shared kitchen, garden and hot tub area
No one really seems to know the definitive history of the Bosnian Pyramids, in the Zenica-Doboj region. Are they natural or man-made? Ancient or more recent? There are many theories to consider… so it’s handy that you’ll have plenty of comfortable spaces in which to sit down at Bosnian Pyramid Glamping, at the foot of the Pyramid of the Sun, and ponder all the ideas. The cabins at this site on the edge of Visoko have been designed to provide plenty of places for guests to relax in between their outings – whether those are tours of the area’s archaeological sites or activities like hikes and horse riding. Each cabin has its own outdoor deck area (with lovely views to take in as you read up on your local history), and the interior has heating to make sure it's nice and cosy if you’d rather curl up indoors. The cabins also all have their own mini kitchen and private bathroom, but it’s the shared spaces that are really the big draw here. Guests have access to a lovely garden, a comfy sheltered chillout area and (possibly the pinnacle of it all) a hot tub area with outdoor showers. There’s also a multi-functional deck area for things like yoga and meditation sessions, or just for a spot of sunbathing. Being just on the edge of town, you’ll easily be able to walk into the centre for meals at its restaurants or drinks in its cafés, or to pick up self-catering supplies to take back to base. Handily, there’s a well-equipped shared outdoor kitchen on site, with dining tables where you can serve up your meals while looking out at the scenery.

Local attractions

You’ll want to start with a tour of the area’s pyramids of course – the Pyramid of the Sun and Pyramid of the Moon are the most famous, but there are several others to visit nearby too. The team on site can hook you up with guided tours or taxi services if you don’t fancy doing it on your own. As well as visiting the pyramids, you might like to take a walk up to the Old Town of Visoki to see the fortress, or see what lies beneath the surface at Tunnel Ravne (both 50 minutes’ walk). And if you’d rather not travel on foot, have a chat with your hosts for details of horse riding outings in the local area. Looking further afield, you might also like to take a trip to the capital, Sarajevo (40 minutes’ drive) to visit the Baščaršija bazaar and Museum of Sarajevo 1878-1918 or take a cable car to the top of Trebević Mountain, where the 1984 Winter Olympics were held.
