- Riverside campground on a historic homestead in western Victoria
- Grampians National Park 50 minutes’ drive; Halls Gap about an hour
- Off-grid sites on the Glenelg River; fire pit and landscaped gardens
When you’re looking for a Victoria campground with a bit of history behind it, Fulham Homestead springs to mind. Set on a 180-year-old historic homestead – and now a hobby farm – with extensive landscaped gardens, the spacious camping sites offer good access for caravans and large motorhomes with Glenelg River or creek-side views.
There’s a fire pit for grilling up an alfresco feast, as well as picnic tables, an upcycled seat made out of wagon wheels and a vast wooden swing dotted around the property. You can spend time fishing, wild swimming and kayaking on the river, or curl up with a good book overlooking the peaceful creek.
The owners have dogs of their own, and your four-legged pals are very welcome too. You will also get visits from the homestead’s pet sheep, local kangaroos and wallabies, and the kookaburras will laugh at you loudly in the mornings.
Please note that the sites have no drinking water, electric hook-ups or bathrooms, so all guests are required to be fully self-contained with their own toilet/shower facilities. It’s also asked that you leave no trace of your presence on departure.
