What customers say

Stunning coastal spot with beach access and epic sea views. Lots of space, friendly staff, handy courtyard shop/cafe/bar/pizza. Facilities generally good & clean, though a bit dated for some. Expect great views and walks, but water supply, wind and price can be hit and miss. Top recommendation for beach lovers and families.

Ramsey Island Field unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Loved our stay here. The pitches were quiet, peaceful and felt really safe, just what we needed. Great bunch of campers around, friendly but as your so spaced out not in-your-face. Whole place had a relaxed feel, which made it easy to switch off. The bar was well stocked (bonus points for that), and the pizza oven fired up every night was a brilliant touch. Waking up to that sea view each morning? Unreal. Great walks, running routs and a short walk to a private beach. We are planning to come back as soon as possible!

Beach Field unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Loved the view of the cliffs, beach and sea. The ease we could get down to the beach. The great atmosphere on the campsite. Friendly reception staff,
The cafe and pizza place were awesome
The kids also spent many hours entertained by the slide which was a simple thing but it did the trick
Our battery went flat and someone came out with a super jump lead and we were up and away within seconds. This was such a relief.

Disliked Nothing really. The toilets were a bit of a walk from our field, so perhaps some portaloos closer to the field

3-amp Ramsey Island Field powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked We stayed in the Ramsey Island Field and it was amazing. We had so much space and the views were excellent.

It's a few minutes walk to the beach which is wonderful and you can take a 20-25 minute walk along the coast line to the opposite beach (White Sands).

The amenities were very good too. The on site shop was well stocked, there was a lovely cafe, bar and pizza place all in the courtyard along with the toilets and shower buildings. The prices were reasonable too.

All the staff we friendly and helpful.

Its great as a base for day trips out too, there are local boats excursions which we didn't manage this time but will definitely make sure of next time.

If you are travelling to the Blue Lagoon, make sure to pack a wetsuit and water shoes, as the water is very cold and the rocks are sharp!

Disliked Only negatives I can really think of was the wait time for Pizza's as they were very popular, it was over 90 mins wait at one point. (Order when they open is the best way to make sure you get one)
The lack of a good children's play area. There is a small plastic slide in the courtyard that was good for small children but there is plenty of space in other areas for a full park type set up with swings, climbing frame and such.

These are both very minor negatives though as the whole experience was excellent!

Local attractions

This is heaven for beach buffs: Porthsele and Whitesands beaches are both within walking distance of Pencarnan. At Porthsele, take your pick from kayaking, surfing and paddleboarding from its sandy shore; if fishing's more your bag you can fish for mackerel, pollock and seabass from the beach and from certain points on the cliff around Pencarnan's land. There are also a few marked climbing spots around the cliffs on the land and some good entry points for coasteering or a coastal swim back to Porthsele beach… followed back at base with a sunset beach fire or barbecue to end the day. The famed surfing centre of Whitesands, a mile away on the coast path from Pencarnan, has a café, deckchairs and wetsuit hire, plus lifeguards in the summer months. Heading south, St Justinian’s (under a mile away along the coast path) is home to RNLI St Davids Lifeboat Station and a departure point for boat trips around, onto and beyond Ramsey Island to spy seals, seabirds, porpoises, whales, dolphins and sharks. Make time too for a trip to the tiny city of St Davids, to browse its shops and galleries and take a look at sixth-century St Davids Cathedral.
