  • Spacious farm site over two acres on the banks of the river Marlais
  • Brechfa Forest and Brecon Beacons within a half-hour drive
  • Open-air hot shower, campfire areas and secure bike storage available
Up for meandering along the Marlais river? At this peaceful farm site you'll be able to wander, picnic and set up campfires on both sides of its splendid banks. Glynmarch Farm is about a mile away from the small village of Llansawel, a handy location indeed given that two top-rated pubs are within easy walking distance. This well-connected spot is well-placed for those looking to explore Carmarthenshire and beyond: checking out the depths of Brechfa Forest (20 minutes' drive) and exploring the wide open spaces of the Brecon Beacons National Park (30 minutes) are two jaunts that the owners highly recommend. The pitches at this site are spread over two acres of countryside and have views over two gorgeous valleys. Wild swims in the river can also be sorted. Facilities-wise, Glynmarch Farm strikes a balance between convenience and keeping things on the wild side: there's a hot open-air shower, a washing-up point and toilets of both the composting and flushing variety. Cycling types may be pleased to note that a covered barn is available for safe and secure bike storage. Other parts of the farm are also fair game for rambling – keep your eyes peeled for the inquisitive Glynmarch resident sheep if coming here in the summer or autumn months. Barbecues and campfires can be lit at several spots around the site, all of which have been chosen for their specially scenic surrounds.

Liked: Great facilities and location. Nice views and quiet. Covered space for rainy evenings v useful.

Disliked: Maybe a couple of new ping pong balls needed.

From the manager: Many thanks for the review and thanks also for pointing that out. I found two good ones had gone over the wall into the barn next door, so I think netting along the top of the wall would solve that. Cheers

Set within Rolling Hills and Stunning Views.

Liked: This was our first time staying at Glynmarch. The farm and adjoining campsite is set overlooking stunning rolling hills and endless skies. With sheep, cows and plenty of birds to see. The site is immaculate, with toilets, showers and a kitchen area to wash your dishes. The owners Steve and Marion even have a freezer for you to use along with a barn area with ping pong and ring toss, which the kids loved. Charging points for phones and a lovely swinging chair looking out over the hills. At the bottom of the valley which is just a few minutes walk is a beautiful river which surrounds a small island. A stunning place to sit with a cuppa and watch the world go by. A few minutes drive is the Angel Inn, where they serve fantastic food and drink and stunning puddings. The staff are wonderful. All in all a peace of heaven hidden away in the hills of Wales.

Disliked: Leaving :(

Liked: Wonderfully quiet location, just the sound of the breeze, the birds, the sheep, and the odd cow.
Loved having the river nearby for a bracing morning dip!
Being able to have a campfire was an absolute must and very much appreciated.
Simple structures for washing up, half-outdoor showers and compost loo were great.
Teenagers forgot their phones for a while and played table tennis which was a real joy and harked back to my own childhood memories of campsites with games rooms. They were however happy to have somewhere to recharge their phones while they played!
Had everything we needed to be comfortable, with no unnecessary bells and whistles!
Really friendly host who came round to say hello, see how we were getting on and reassure us that we didn't need to rush our pack down.

Disliked: Our teenage girls were a bit peeved that there wasn't really any wifi but the adults welcomed this!

Liked: This place was fantastic! Beautiful views, quiet (mainly due to the fact that we were lucky to be the only ones there!) Lovely open ceiling showers, toilets and a river you can take a dip in. The owners were also very lovely and welcoming. We will definitely return!

Geweldige plek!

Liked: Fantastic location deep in the most pristine Welsh countryside. You pretty much have the run of the farm and you can explore down to the totally wild stretch of stream down in the valley. The numerous trees are gorgeous and the views from the camping field are captivating. Campsite facilities done and maintained perfectly, with warm solar showers open to the sky and really good compost loos. Had a nice couple of chats with the friendly and very interesting owners…
Excellent gastro/real ale-pub 3 miles away the Black Lion at Abergorlech. Confusingly, there is a pub of the same name nearer the campsite in llansawel, but the one at Abergorlech is worth the short treck… make sure to book 😊

Local attractions

Dragons love to guard it, Celtic kings couldn't get enough of it and modern British royals don't settle for anything else when choosing a wedding ring – suffice it to say that Welsh gold is a rare and splendid thing indeed. Make for Dolaucothi Gold Mines (15 minutes' drive) to see how it's been hunted out since Roman times (the surrounding National Trust-managed land is also a treasure trove of wildlife, so bring some binoculars too). After delving into the past at the mines, pedalling through Brechfa Forest (20 minutes), exploring Dinefwr Castle (25 minutes) and pottering around the National Botanic Gardens of Wales (35 minutes) can all be added to the agenda; if you organise yourself well there'll also be some time left over to visit gorgeous Llyn Brianne lake (an hour). Wales has some 1,370 miles of coastline to its name, and while Glynmarch Farm isn't the most obvious spot for beach holidays it can certainly be done. Aberaeron (40 minutes) is a top pick if you're heading west, while Tenby (an hour and 10 minutes) is a must if you plump for Pembrokeshire.
