  • Well-maintained rural site with pitches surrounded by trees
  • On the edge of Ruabon; Llangollen 15 minutes' drive
  • Easy access from A539; half a mile to pubs and a railway station
Set yourself up for leisurely North Wales breaks at James Caravan Park, a well-maintained site on the edge of the small town of Ruabon. There's a range of styles of pitches here, from grass-based basic options to hard-standing fully-serviced plots, plus a host of handy amenities like a centrally heated toilet and shower block. With easy access off the A539 dual carriageway, the park grounds are spacious and dotted with trees, but please be aware there may be some traffic noise. With so much room on site, your nearest neighbours are likely to be the various forms of local wildlife that flit among the trees (although when you're feeling more sociable, it's an easy half-mile walk to the nearest pub). The park is a 15-minute drive from the gorgeous town of Llangollen, the base of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Guests with an adventurous side have all sorts of activities to try out here, from river rafting to boating, trail riding and more. Larger towns and cities like Wrexham (10 minutes' drive), Chester (30 minutes) and Liverpool (50 minutes) are also well within reach for urban day trips. The nearest station is under 15 minutes' away on foot, making it easy to catch the train to Chester (journey time 20 minutes) or Shrewsbury (30 minutes) too.

What customers say

Great staff & facilities, lovely grounds. Handy spot for shops/pubs. Can get a bit of road noise, and some pitches are a bit tight.

Powered grass site

Liked Fantastic site with great hosts. First time camping with our girls football team and the hosts were so accommodating. They helped us fix our tents up and gave us lots of tips. A chippy van came around 6.00 so kids were easily pleased and an ice cream van appeared later. Would highly recommend, would definitely come again.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Our pitch was very shady under trees.
Friendly welcome at reception and within a short distance to Rhiwabon town ( and very close to an Aldi). Also close to train station

Nice toilet and shower block

Disliked Very close to busy road. Noise was a bit of an issue but luckily we were out most of the time at the Eisteddfod.

Fully-serviced concrete slab site

Liked The area. Lovely trees around the site. Pitch was level.

Disliked Not very clean. Shower block not cleaned thoroughly.
Staff not v friendly. Not made to feel welcome on arrival.

From the manager: Hi Lorraine, we are sorry to hear this review from yourself, all staff try to be friendly and welcoming, our staff work here within everyday hours, and are not over worked but may have a busy spell when customers arrive all at the same time. We watch reception during certain hours and we do have other staff working in the background also.
Sorry you experienced the shower block being left untidy by other campers, yes we know they are dated but also kept very clean during the day/evening, we clean them 5 times a day. We had an extremely busy week the week you stayed with the Eisteddfod festival with the camp site being at capacity. We also left out clean mops and towels to help keep them cleaned by users as we display signs saying please clean up after yourself.
We are sorry you felt this way during your stay, sorry as a team we didn't reach your expectations.
Reviews are important to us, they enable us to gain knowledge and understanding. They also give us suggestions to improve our standards
Thank you
Team James

Disliked Right on a very noisy dusl carriageway

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we do try our best to keep our campsite clean. Yes we are next to the road, this can be an advantage to some to enable great links to many attractions in and around Wrexham and Wales, but also can be a negative for others with the noise on some occasions
Team James

Local attractions

Hoping for history? You've come to the right place. Take a trip to Chirk Castle (10 minutes' drive) and discover one of the most impressive Marcher fortresses on the border between England and Wales. Afterwards, similarly scenic and historic times are to be had at the National Trust-run Erddig Estate (15 minutes), a spectacular Grade I-listed property with fab formal grounds. Water has done such a lot to shape the Welsh landscape, and the area surrounding James Caravan Park has a fair bit of the wet stuff to admire. Check out the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (10 minutes) on the Shropshire Union Canal to see an exceptional feat of Victorian engineering, and stick around to take a boat ride by its arches along the river Dee. For a break with one foot in Wales and the other in England, trundle along by train to Chester Zoo (or drive there in 30 minutes), take yourself off to Tate Liverpool (50 minutes) for art and culture, or – if you really want to make the kids' day – organise a jaunt to the high-adrenaline rides at Gulliver's World Theme Park (50 minutes).
