North Wales is a popular destination for outdoor activities, but you may well have to travel around a bit to access your chosen pursuit. Not so when you’re staying at Plas Menai National Outdoor Centre. Here on the banks of the Menai Strait about 10 minutes’ drive from Caernarfon, this is a place where you can roll your accommodation (in bunkhouse rooms) and your activities into one location for a fantastically convenient holiday option. The range of activities that can be organised here is a lengthy one – there are beginner sessions (with kit and instruction included) for things like kayaking, paddleboarding, climbing and mountain biking, along with more advanced watersports and sailing courses for those who decide they’d like to develop their skills further. You can also hire bikes on site to set off and explore your local surroundings under your own steam. The exciting activities don’t end there on site, of course – you’ll also be very close to Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, so all sorts of hikes, bike rides and other antics are within easy reach, including the adrenaline thrills of the ZipWorld sites and the satisfaction of a climb up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), Wales’ highest peak. For more leisurely days, visit Caernarfon Castle or cross the nearby Menai Bridge for a day exploring the Isle of Anglesey. Back on site after all your activities or outings, you can take a swim in the heated indoor pool before picking up snacks from the café or settling in for a meal in the dining room. A TV room, a launderette and plenty of bathroom facilities are also on hand.
