If you really, really want to escape the trappings of modern-day life, Persant in Powys is a very good fit for you. Located at Llanafan Fawr, 10 minutes’ drive from Newbridge-on-Wye, this five-acre pop-up site is set in a wooded valley and offers flat or sloping pitches in a field bordered by two streams. Wherever you stake your spot, you’re surrounded by the spectacular hills of Mid Wales. Back-to-basics amenities cover compost loos, a communal campfire and a small marquee with tables and chairs for alfresco dining. Only non-potable stream water is readily available, but drinking water is provided in dispensers – and please note, this site is completely off grid, which means no showers and no electricity. In fact, don’t expect too many 21st-century conveniences as the mobile signal is weak and wifi non-existent. However, if you feel yourself getting tech withdrawal symptoms, you can soon in Newbridge-on-Wye with its shops, restaurants, pubs and wifi. If you’re still not completely chilled at this simple, rural and peaceful spot, the site owners offer guided meditations sessions, cold-water immersion and bushcraft classes.
