  • Spacious and pretty site on the shores of the Firth of Forth
  • Convenient public transport to Edinburgh, or a 20-minute drive
  • Dog-walking area, playground and modern, clean amenities
Don't fret about whether to focus on the choice of accommodation or the location of dog-friendly Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site in gorgeous East Lothian, for both are equally special. The location of the site is an excellent one, in the grounds of an old monastery with plenty of space and partial views of the Firth of Forth from some parts. Variety is key here: you can have urban or rural days out. Edinburgh is in one direction (and accessible by bus or train) and the East Lothian coast and countryside in the other – the Edinburgh to Prestonpans section of the 134-mile path John Muir Way passes within five minutes of the site entrance. More? The sands and shoreline of the coast are a few miles away, it's 25 minutes' drive to popular North Berwick, and there's even a golf club (the Royal Musselburgh) right next door… Like the accommodation and grounds, the Drummohr amenities are modern, clean and well maintained by Angie and her team: there are two refurbished tiled shower and toilet blocks with chemical disposal, accessible family bathrooms with baths, an indoor campers' kitchen with vending machines, and a fully equipped laundry room with metered facilities. Drinking water points and waste disposal are both close to the spacious pitches and there's a licensed shop selling local produce and essentials on site too. Final little touches? How about a playground, a dog-walking area and the option to hire firepits to keep you warm on chillier evenings…

Good pot washing facilities and there were also 2 family sized bathrooms with baths! Really impressed. Very welcoming wardens and staff. Very well kept and tidy site with respectful campers throughout

Liked: Fantastic heated toilet and shower block with warm, clean showers, they even had music playing.
Lovely quiet, clean, dog friendly site, where the staff (especially the warden) were very polite and helpful.
Short drive to local shops and retail park and train station or a 5 minute walk to the bus stop. We got the train into Edinburgh which was very easy to navigate and comes every hour. Would definitely stop again. Thank you.

Liked: We arrived Saturday lunchtime, and was greeted by the very friendly owners. Fantastic site, with a great play area for the kids. Shower block was very modern and tidy with the added touch off the music playing, like the point that you can have a bbq or fire pit.
very close to train station and bus stop.

Liked: I came here to camp with my 3 young children, it's a lovley campsites, well laid out, I had asked if it was possible to be near the play park as I was camping on my own with my children and this was no hassle. All the staff we dealt with were so kind and couldn't do enough to help, I think it was lyndsey on the desk (sorry if spelt wrong) she was especially kind and helpful!

The facilities are great on site, toilets are the cleanest I've seen at any campsite, so warm and lovley to use, the family bathrooms are excellent, so nice for the kids to get a bath.

The tent pitches themselves were great, nice and level with shelter around. For a small fee we were also able to hire a fire pit which was nice for the chilly nights

Around the site is beautiful and just a short walk down the shore to see seals and go rock pooling, only half hour drive away you have north Berwick beaches and views of bass rock, lots of lovley places to explore.

Would definitely recommend drummohr campsite and will definitely be back

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Friendly staff escorted us to our pitch. The site was immaculate and very well looked after and maintained, it did help the sun was shining. The showers and toilet block we used was great, the shower was amazing and very powerful. It was warm which was good during the night, they also played music which we found a great addition. Lovely play park for the kids and lots of space for running around.

Disliked: On the pitch up site it says you could have a fire if you bought wood from site but we were informed you could only use sites own BBQ for this. They had them to hire for £15. I think this should be made clearer when booking.

Local attractions

The local bus to the festival city of Edinburgh (25 minutes' drive) runs every 10 minutes during the day, every 20 minutes in the evenings, and every hour at night; the journey takes about 40 minutes. The train from Wallyford runs every hour and takes 10 minutes. There are numerous things to see and do in excellent Edinburgh, but if you're only spending one or two days there, recommended options are the castle, Holyrood Palace, the National Museum of Scotland and the zoo (which has first-class views of the city). Elsewhere, Drummohr's location makes it easy to get to all types of days out around the coast and countryside: golf courses, historic houses and stately homes. The Prestongrange Industrial Heritage Museum (five minutes) has free entry and is a few minutes' walk from the park. Musselburgh (also five minutes) has a lovely walk along the John Muir Way. Other recommended trips nearby include Tantallon Castle (35 minutes) on its headland overlooking the Firth of Forth, trailing nature in John Muir Country Park (25 minutes) or the Lammermuir Hills (40 minutes), an afternoon among the gardens at Tyninghame House (25 minutes), or taking a boat ride around Bass Rock (half an hour to the North Berwick ferry) to see the gannet colony. If the Bass Rock boat ride gets you pondering more about the winged life of the area, the Scottish Seabird Centre is also in pretty seaside North Berwick. At nearby Dunbar (25 minutes), about 60 breeding pairs of kittiwakes are found near the harbour, and nearby East Links Family Park is child-friendly.
