  • Rural dog-friendly site by a river 10 minutes’ drive from Dumfries
  • A five-minute drive from Dalscone Farm Fun; half an hour from the sea
  • Modern showers and disabled facilities; awnings provided; shop nearby
If you’re after a well-serviced spot to park up for the night or are looking to stick around and explore stunning Dumfries and Galloway, you’ve hit upon the right spot. Newbridge Country Park is a modern holiday park that handily suits both purposes, being half an hour’s drive from the M74 (for journeys to the Highlands or south to the Lakes) and about the same distance from beaches and historic castles. Set in several acres of countryside, the holiday park is only just off the A76, so there's no need to navigate country lanes or side roads to get there. It has spectacular views over the hills of Galloway Forest Park (half an hour’s drive), where you can soon be out exploring on foot or by bike. Anglers can cast for brown trout at Alderneuk Fishery or fly fish for salmon (in season) on the River Nith (both 15 minutes), and there are a couple of golf courses within 15 minutes’ drive too. The lively town of Dumfries (10 minutes) is a surefire bet for picking up food or any other bits and bobs. If you’re having a break from the stove, take your pick of cosy pubs, organic cafés and restaurants serving local Scottish produce while you’re there. There's another shop five minutes' walk from the site. Back at base camp, all the pitches are neatly landscaped, and spotless facilities on the site include a shower block with wet rooms and a laundry room, plus chemical disposal. There is also a games room with a pool table, football table and comfortable seating.

Spacious, clean site, great for dogs with river access. Friendly staff, good games room. Only minor downsides are limited loos/showers & some facilities in the busy games room.

Liked Nice surroundings, close to Town.

Disliked Most staff were nice but one individual at the park was rather grumpy/abrupt. We found the toilet and shower situation a bit odd, having one of the two ‘domestic type’ showers at the end of the games room where children were playing and the other attached to reception a walk away.

Liked Very peaceful site close to Dumfries and with easy access to activities either along the coast to sandy beaches or into the hills and forests for walking and biking. Appreciated the large field adjacent to the site to walk the dog.
Will come back.

Disliked Not very keen on the showers and toilets that were accessed through the indoor play area.

Liked Site was obsolutely spotless. Very helpful manager. Facilities were immaculate. Showers and toilets immaculate and checked several times a day. Lovely hot shower and plenty of room for changing and dry clothes etc. Indoor washing up area with detergents etc supplied. Without a doubt, the best equipped and cleanest site we have visited, despite it's more than reasonable cost. Used our own WiFi although site WiFi was available. No children with us, but safe and tidy site would be ideal for children. Pool room and games available.

Liked Friendly greeting at reception. Dog walking area down to river. Location.

Disliked Toilets off the games room. Long walk to alternative toilets/showers. Noisy at night. Dogs seemingly allowed to roam off lead, with no checks. Too many lights on at night. Found one camper sleeping in the games room with dog running free. Vehicles driving on site after 11pm.

From the manager: Gary thank you for leaving us a review.

We are pleased you had a friendly greeting at reception when you checked in. The team try to make everyone feel welcome and give them as much information as possible when checking in.

It's good to hear you like the location and the dog walking area down by the river. We are very lucky to be in a beautiful location with good transport links, beautiful scenery, but close to the historical town of Dumfries and local amenities.

Gary we are disappointed to hear it was noisy at night. In the site rules we do state that noise must be at a minimum between 11pm & 7am.

Yes we have one toilet and a shower/toilet off the games room, but the other showers/toilets are a short 2 minute walk away at reception.

We were unaware of any dogs roaming off the lead on the touring site, and if we had been made aware, we would of addressed the situation straight away.

There was no one sleeping in the games room Gary. We were aware of a family that were in a tent and they had a takeaway delivered and ate it in the games room. Late that evening when we did the toilet checks the family & gentleman had returned to their tent. The following morning the father was in the games room again while his daughter had a shower. So it may of seemed to you that he had slept in there, but that wasn't the case.

We have low level lights so it's easy for campers to find the toilets/facilities, their accommodation easily when it's dark. The lights are not very bright and don't disturb anyone in tents, campervans, motorhomes, etc.

Occasionally Gary we have local events going on, and some campers do arrive back a little later. But we ask all our guests to be considerate to other guests, which they usually do.

Gary on the site plan there are telephone numbers to ring in case of any problems. If you had made us aware of these problems while on site, like we said, we could off addressed these problems straightaway.

We want all our guests to have an enjoyable stay, and we very rarely have any issues, so it's upsetting to the whole team when we hear one of our guests has had issues.

Thank you again for your review Gary.

Disliked Farm vehicles working in next field until very late at night

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review.

It's nice to hear you say we have good facilities and a games room, and that you also found the site very clean and very good Wi-Fi signal.

With regards to the farm vehicles working in the next field late at night, unfortunately once a year the farmer mows the field and has to get in the bales in quickly while the weather is dry. As you can appreciate in Scotland we do get rain, so as the saying goes 'Make hay while the sun shines'.

You have put that you would recommend our site and would visit again, so we hope you will visit again soon.

Thank you again for your review.

From the manager: Susan thank you for taking the time to leave us a complimentary review.

The team are pleased you appreciated how lovely our site is and how well looked after it is. It's so nice to hear you would recommend us and extremely good to hear you will be back in a couple of weeks.

As for the toilets Susan, the majority of new sites are unisex toilets.

Local attractions

Dumfries (10 minutes’ drive) was the birthplace of Robbie Burns in 1759; see displays on the life of Scotland’s favourite poet, as well as portraits and period rooms, at the Robert Burns House, or read more about his life and times at the Robert Burns Centre, an 18th-century watermill sitting on the banks of the River Nith. There’s more on his backstory at Robert Burns Ellisland Farm (five minutes), a sprawling homestead where he once farmed. Spectacular Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens (20 minutes) makes a great day out for all the family, with its stellar art collection, woodland walks and adventure playground. For more Scottish heritage, stop by the moated remains of medieval Caerlaverock Castle (25 minutes), or have a nose around impressive cloisters of 13th-century Sweetheart Abbey (20 minutes) in New Abbey. If you prefer to do your exploring on foot, amble up to the 60-foot waterfall in Grey Mare’s Tail Nature Reserve (50 minutes), or pack a picnic and hike to Loch Trool and Bruce’s Stone – commemorating Robert the Bruce’s victory over the English in 1307 – in Galloway Forest Park (half an hour).
