What customers say

Pear Tree Farm: A ripper quiet, dog-friendly spot with fab country views. Gary the owner's a legend, and it's super secure. Good-sized sites, water & power. Clean and fair dinkum value, though loos can get busy and some found the ground rocky for pegs. Steep access road, too.

Power optional grass and gravel caravan site

Liked Was visiting the area to meet up with family and attend Melplash Show. West Bay wanted £170 for 2 nights, Pear Tree Farm cost £42 for 2 nights plus you pay for the electric you use (£4.83 in our case for 2 days/nights). There is also one toilet and one shower (£1 for 8 mins) on site. There is no charge for dogs. The reason I list all this is because some people will pay £21 a night and still want the facilities of a £50 to £80 a night site. That's unfair, because if you apply price discrimination, this site provides the most value for money. It is a jewel in the crown, hidden away in the West Dorset countryside. Gary the owner was very friendly and approachable and only too willing to assist if help is needed. If it was possible, this is one site that I would give 20 out of 10.

Local attractions

After you've viewed the Dorset countryside dealt to you on site, track down some pretty spots on the Dorset coast too. Views of Golden Cap and fossils to find make Eype beach (25 minutes’ drive) a good place to start. If your fossil hunting needs haven’t already been met in Lyme Regis and on Eype Beach, Charmouth (half an hour) is another place to continue your search. A busier beach scene can be experienced in Weymouth (40 minutes), along with an RSPB reserve and an aquarium with an ocean tunnel. Along the south coast, Abbotsbury Swannery (35 minutes) has a colony of nesting swans and the Isle of Portland (55 minutes) is packed with interesting geology and beaches – and, in turn, impressive coastal walks and watersports. History nerds have lots to look forward to too. Forde Abbey House and Gardens (25 minutes) isn’t just a historic country house. Green-fingered folk can pick up some bits in the garden centre. Have yourself a historic hike at Coney's Castle (25 minutes) too, where there’s an Iron Age hillfort and views of Devon and Marshwood Vale.
