Pitches

  • Grass meadow on the outskirts of Broadmayne village in rural Dorset
  • A 10-minute drive to Preston beach; 20 to Durdle Door or Chesil beach
  • Lots of safe space for kids to play; 10-minute walk to a pub and shops
Looking to really, really get back to nature? Well, this may be the spot for you. Chalk Meadow is a secluded grass paddock site on the outskirts of the sleepy Dorset village of Broadmayne, 20 minutes' drive away from Durdle Door. Facilities are minimal (just loos and hot showers) and there’s no electricity, but that’s part of its rural charm. Couples, families and well-behaved dogs – all are welcome here, for relaxing country breaks mooching across the fields. And if you want to get out exploring, there’s plenty to do for everybody. You can walk to Osmington White Horse in 45 minutes, and if you’re looking forward to splashing around in the sea with the kids, you’ve got the choice of Chesil (20 minutes), Preston and Ringstead (both 10 minutes) beaches. Get set to spark up the barbecue on site (just remember to bring your own) as it’s an easy 10-minute walk to Broadmayne to stock up on supplies in the convenience stores. Don’t want to cook? No worries – there’s a pub in the village too. For bigger shopping trips, the lively market town of Dorchester (10 minutes' drive) is your best bet, and you’ll probably want to stay a while to poke around its markets, museums and Thomas Hardy's Cottage (15 minutes).

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Absolutely everything! Jim made us feel so welcome with his friendly warm nature. Location of the site was perfect as was close to everything we needed and wanted. Kids loved having so much free space to play and kick a ball around. Toilets and showers were clean and presentable. The grounds were level which made finding spot to pitch up very easy.

Disliked Nothing! Nothing not to like

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Jim is very attentive with a hands-on relaxed approach & is regularly on-site ensuring that everyone is enjoying their visit. The facilities were always clean & well stocked with soap/hand towels/toilet rolls etc. Never far from water points or bins with plenty of both around the site. We had no trouble finding a level pitch for our campervan. Although we visited on a busy August weekend the site was quiet with plenty of space for all. Very good walk from the site through the Village to the White Horse about 6 miles in all. Further afield, Ringstead has a good beach with parking & cafe. From here we took a gentle stroll to the Smugglers Inn at Osmington Mill for an excellent lunch. Very enjoyable weekend! Would highly recommend & already planning a return visit. Thanks Jim it was great to meet you & have our chats over the opening weekend of the premier league!

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Owner was amazing! The sweetest guy ever , I arrived very late to the site and he then came and checked I got there safely and was in a good spot, every morning and evening he individually came round to evrry guest making sure they had a good day, had everything they need and are OK and happy. Even help fix my boot when the lock got stuck along with other camper their. Great site with very clean toilets, couldn't speak on the showers as never used them . Would highly recommend, will definitely be returning

Disliked Nothing, was slightly hard to find however it was pitch black, and the sign was also black and set back off the road slightly , however in a very old vehicle with not so good lights, in a 'normal ' vehicle would have no problems finding it , but that being said I rang the owner when lost and he helped me find it instantly so there was no worries there

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked The perfect site to explore the Jurassic Coast. Chalk Meadow was spacious and well looked after, the facilities were very clean and there were some incredible beaches only a 15/20min drive away. Jim was a wonderful host who took great care of all his guests and went out of his way to ensure we had a lovely stay. We’ll definitely be back!
