  • Farm beef available to buy; footpath access to Knightshayes Court
Peace, quiet and fabulous views – if that sounds like a fine mix for your Devon break, you're likely to be happy indeed with your lot at Firebeacon Farm. As you’ll see from the pics, this secluded family farm has gorgeous sweeping views over the Exe Valley, and the pitches at its pop-up campsite are in prime position to soak them all up. Being west-facing, the views are particularly fine around sunset – but truth be told, they’re pretty lovely at all hours. And that includes night-time, because the low light pollution locally means you’ll get good starry displays on a clear night. The owners have kept the pitch numbers on the low side here so that there's plenty of space and peace for everyone, and kids can run around safely. This is a working sheep and cattle farm, so there are usually animals in the neighbouring fields – and please note that this also means you'll need to make sure kids and dogs don’t stray into working areas or livestock fields. One of the perks of living on a farm is the easy access to seasonal produce – and that's certainly part of the appeal here, where you can buy grass-fed Dexter beef along with eggs and other produce for your meals. Not in the mood to cook? Several takeaways deliver to the site, and the intriguing Lost Kitchen is about 40 minutes' walk away. Time to head out and about? Tiverton is about 10 minutes' drive away and Exmoor about 20 minutes. You can also walk to the National Trust's Knightshayes Court in about half an hour along a footpath from the farm.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Fabulous rural location on a working farm with amazing views. The hosts are lovely and have a range of farm produce on sale, so I enjoyed delicious steak and eggs cooked on a campfire. A 'proper' camping experience, with no electrical hookups or marked pitches - just nature (and a super-clean composting loo and washing up facilities!)
