What customers say

Great city/estuary views, peaceful vibe, and close to the beach. Just a heads-up, facilities (toilets/showers) are limited, the ground's a bit bumpy, and there have been access issues with the golf club.

Liked The view

Disliked Being treat different t to the rest because we was travellers .. everyone else had the code but us we payed every day as we should .. we took rubbish with us .. every single person on that camp who lives there and stayed there was lovely 🥰 Martin a gentleman played with the kids gave them ice cream 🍦 there was a lady who played with the kids helped us out a gentleman gave us a bed so respectful and helpful!! Apart from being penned in like a dog and want able to have the code to a gate because he must of been Fritend we was Gona fill he’s field there’s good and bad in everyone and to be humiliated like that was horrible my children still to this day don’t get the respect they deserve but it is what it is human rights they say !

From the manager: Ok so I had an inkling your group may be "Travellers" but it really didn't bother me. You were well behaved, polite paying guests and that's how I treated you. You were turned away from another site but I tried my best to make you feel welcome here. I usually only give out the gate code if I feel it necessary and I have good reason for this. I'm sorry if this may have inconvenienced or upset you even though you got the code from someone else anyway. You were all well behaved and respectful and it was nice to see the children running around enjoying the site. Please accept my apologies if I upset you. I will of course be happy to give you a good reference if requested for another site. Cheers.

Liked The View

Disliked No water, no greywater, Pool chemical toilet discharfe

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for staying with us at Drake's View. There are two fresh drinking water taps on site. I obviously didn't see you during your visit to point them out to you. There is a functional chemical toilet waste tank next to the wheelie bins. Please, in future if anyone has any issue feel free to call or text me and it will be sorted. Cheers.

Nice place for a nice price.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked The view is spectacular over to Plymouth Hoe and down into the estuary. Lovely to hear the skylark overhead.

Disliked Rather scruffy, uneven ground with slight slope and a little worried that the golfers' balls may go awol from over the fence.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked The view

Disliked There are no facilities here and there is an ongoing feud between the site owner and the golf club right next door.
Our gas wasn't firing and we weren't able to have a hot shower. When we asked the Golf Club manager if we could pay to use their showers he said a flat no- due to the dispute with the campsite owner.
We felt the golf manager was missing a trick to make money and in the process wasn't sympathetic to our situation simply because he doesn't get on with campsite owner.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: There is no feud. I think perhaps you may have spoken to the wrong person. However the golf club showers are quite rightly for the paying golf club members only. However you can use the toilets if you are spending money in the golf club Bar / Restaurant. We do advertise there are no facilities here. All this occurred because your gas wasn't firing. No one else's fault. Hope you liked the fireworks at least. Cheers.

Local attractions

With the coast so close by, it’s only natural that the beach might be your first port of call, but which cove first? Well, there’s splendid swimming (and snorkelling if you’ve got the gear for it) at Bovisand beach (five minutes' drive) or kitesurfing and windsurfing activities at the stunning sandy beach at Bigbury-on-Sea (40 minutes) will give you some top views of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In Plymouth, paddles might come in the form of a trip to the saltwater Tinside Lido (20 minutes) in the harbour… relax on the sun deck afterwards or take yourself off into central Plymouth (20 minutes) for shopping in the Barbican’s historic quarter or the bigger shopping centre. With Dartmoor Zoo (25 minutes) for animal fans and the National Trust’s Saltram Park (15 minutes) for cycles on the grounds of a Georgian mansion, there are lots of activities for all types of tastes. Dartmoor National Park (25 minutes) has a splendid combo too, this time of valleys, moorlands and the river Dart, so take out a canoe or cycle along the many trails around the national park.
