  • Smart family-run park within Woodbury Common
  • Easy drive into Exeter
  • Excellent facilities including bar, bistro and play area
They say an Englishman’s (motor)home is his castle – so when choosing where to brake, you’ll want a spot fit for a king. Castle Brake Holiday Park in east Devon should pass muster: it’s a smart, family-run park within the heathland of Woodbury Common, ideally placed for an invasion of Exeter and the sought-after sands of the Jurassic Coast. The facilities are splendid: a spotless, cedar-clad amenities block with underfloor heating and family bathrooms; a laundry room; the Castle Inn bar and restaurant for homemade nosh using local ingredients (takeaways are also available); a play area; and ample space for a peaceful stroll and a bit of wildlife spotting. (Please note that the bar and restaurant are not open every evening during low season.) Castle Brake Holiday Park is within half an hour's walk of the village of Woodbury, which has a handful of good pubs and shops, or it’s an easy ride into Exeter for anything else you might need.

Orchard camping pod (no pets)

Liked: Whole site gorgeous
Staff in reception/shop pleasant and friendly, nice little bar onsite (didn't use) very relaxing and peacefully site.
Shower cubicles and toilets emaculate , couldn't fault them loved the underfloor heating so was very warm, family bathroom amazing with the addition of bath tub 😁 great for the little ones.
Bonus was the sister site Ladram bay about 15minute drive where you can use all facilities (swimming, arcade, beach access, entertainment venue) for free as included in price.
We will definitely be returning again this year.

Disliked: Having to leave and return home.

Orchard camping pod (plus)

Liked: We had a wonderful time staying in a Pod plus, my son loved the novelty of it, the park is clean and peaceful with brilliant family showeroom and bath facilities, it is the first place we have seen a family bathroom on a site which Includes a bath and shower and really made life that much simpler, there is a woodland trail you can do and even a play park, our stay also included passes to the sister site Ladram bay where there is unlimited activities, beach access and a pool, the staff are lovely, we originally booked for a weekend and extended our stay as had such a lovely time and we will be returning, is close to Exmouth and Exeter and other surrounding towns, highly reccomend,

Disliked: The only thing was the play park wasn't open but that wasn't a park issue but a manufacturer issue but we weren't notified upon booking

The onsite restaurant isn't open in the day time, I think the option for Lunch would've been nice

And in our welcome pack and online and in other notifications it said we were allowed bbqs however upon arrival we were told we couldn't, not a huge issue and didn't impact our stay, we still had a great time, just conflicting information

WiFi on the site orher than the onsite restaurant had to be paid for as a daily charge,

These are just personal preferences

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The cleanliness of the shower/toilet facilities was fantastic. It was also nice and warm which is important on spring evening. There is a small coffee machine in the laundry room which we didn’t use but appreciated the little touches this place has.
The small shop provided lots of goodies!
The receptionist was so so kind and made us feel very welcome, even borrowed us a dust pan for our tent. The site was easy to navigate and water/electric right on our pitch. Great site overall and the price is unbeatable! We will be back.

Local attractions

Six miles from Castle Brake Holiday Park are the red cliffs of Budleigh Salterton and the family-friendly sands of Exmouth, gateways to the glories of the Jurassic Coast. A little further along the coast is Sidmouth, which features ravishing Regency architecture along its sweeping esplanade. Whether you’re a culture hound or an outdoorsy creature, there’s plenty to do within easy reach: exit into Exeter, an attractive cathedral city brimming with museums and historic sites, or delve into Dartmoor, for more remote adventures. For splashy and screamy fun, a wilderness woodland, indoor and outdoor adventure play areas, farm animals and more, head to the Crealy Great Adventure Park, a mere four miles up the road from Castle Brake. Or try the World of Country Life, which has a petting zoo, indoor and outdoor rides and slides, vintage steam engines, museums and events as eclectic as welly wanging and the six nations ferret races...
