  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

What customers say

Barley Meadow's spotless, modern facilities and peaceful, adult-only vibe get a big thumbs up. Friendly staff, great pitches, on-site shop and dog area are big wins. A bit of road noise, but most keen to come back.

Liked The cleanest ablutions block we have ever come across!! Great stay with large grass pitch. The Bothy even had a pool table, board games etc for rainy days. Well situated for access to nice walks & National Trust venues. Will definitely return.

Power optional grass site

Liked Very clean site, no litter anywhere and the showers, toilets and wash up areas were spotless.
Good location for walks to Fingle Bridge and Castle Drogo (each about 2.5 miles away).
The bothy was really nice with books and games, and we appreciated the use of a fridge and freezer.

From the manager: Many thanks for your nice review. With regards to the lighting. You are advised on booking to bring a good quality torch with you as parts of the campsite are unlit. This is so that everyone gets to experience the beautiful skies in Dartmoor! The bathrooms are all lit up for guests. Best wishes from Leigh and David.

Power optional grass site

Liked A beautiful, efficiently-run campsite with excellent, clean facilities. Even though we were aware of being close to the A30, just going through a gate almost opposite our pitch we were immediately in the countryside.
The pitches are nice and spacious, while everything needed on-site is in easy reach. We really enjoyed watching some goldcrests flitting in and out of the tree opposite our tent, feeding their young in the nest. The site is also perfect for some good walks with lovely views, though very hilly! Thank you.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked This site is a must when travelling down towards or back from Cornwall. We used it as a stop over site before we headed off back down to Portsmouth.
The site is very clean and the amenities are very clean and well serviced.
The staff are very friendly and helpful.
We we offered two alternative pitches as our allocated one was on an incline, sloping in both directions. We stayed with the allocated one as it was a nice quiet spot.
We will definitely use this site on our next visit west.

Disliked The WiFi was a bit laggy and buffered mid evening, Probably caused by so many people logging on. It was free so nothing to moan about.

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
