Stunning lake views

  • Quiet family campsite bordering a fishing lake in Cornish countryside
  • Padstow, Eden Project and Bodmin Jail Attraction all 20 minutes’ drive
  • Off-grid pitches with lakeside walks; shop and pubs 10 minutes’ drive
Fishing anyone? Tregonetha Lake is a small, peaceful – and off-grid – campsite overlooking a two-acre coarse fishing lake, 10 minutes’ drive from the village of St Columb Major and surrounded by untamed Cornish countryside and farmland. There are no designated pitches and space is allocated on a ‘choose where you want to set up’ basis. The biggest draw here is the lake, stocked with carp as well as roach, rudd and bream. To fish here, you will need a current rod licence and all of your own gear. Double pegs are available, giving bags of space for friends to fish together. Not an angler? While on site you can follow lakeside nature walks, keeping any dogs on leads around the water so you don’t disturb the fishing. Within easy reach of several of Cornwall’s biggest visitor draws, including the Eden Project and Bodmin Jail Attraction (both less than half an hour’s drive), the site is also close to the beaches of the county’s north and south coastlines.

Barbecues are permitted on the lakeside camping field, and you can replenish foodie supplies at the mini-market in St Columb Major, where there are also a couple of pubs and a fish and chip shop. As Tregonetha Lake is off grid, there are no electric hook-ups available, but the owners do offer a charging service for your devices. Just be sure to pack torches and spare batteries for any nocturnal adventures.

What customers say

Stunning, tidy campsite with ace, modern eco-toilets/showers, praised for being spotless with hot water. Lovely, quiet lake setting and super friendly, helpful owners. Mostly no complaints, though parking was tricky in the wet and a few bits were still being finished. Highly recommended for its peace and great care.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (lake view)

Liked A lovely little spot to camp with well thought out facilities and a friendly atmosphere. We really enjoyed our stay.

Disliked The site is situated right off of the road which at times can be noisy especially with farm traffic. Not a huge deal but worth noting for those with children or people who are sensitive to sudden sounds ect.

Greenfinch bell tent (basic)

Liked The tent was already for us, lovely picnic bench and the fire pit was ready for use. Although we do not fish the lake was lovely to go for a walk around with my 2 little ones before bed.

Disliked Eco toilets... lots of flies and very smelly and didn't feel very sanitary but that's my personal preferences

Liked shower was nice and the toilet was eco-friendly

Disliked you can't park your car next to the tent. We set up the tent next to the office to have some shelter because it was very windy and rained so much. After we took the tent down, it wasn't very pleasant to move everything back to the car in the heavy rain :/

From the manager: Hello,
So sorry, the weather was really bad when you stayed! You could have moved your car closer, we should have thought to suggest it. We try to keep cars off the field because of limed space when we're busy but we can make an exception in heavy rain, apologies :)

Greenfinch bell tent (basic)

Liked The bell tent was amazing. The campsite was gorgeous and we loved the owners ethos. The added service of croissants and pain au chocolat made to order, is a lovely little touch. We me Tom, the owner and he is such a lovely guy. The site is so clean and looked after. Perfect!!!

Liked Everything, this site is amazing, was able to just pitch up next to the lake, the toilets are eco friendly and very tidy, showers were good and the sink areas allowed ample space to have a few groups, it's so quite (except for the cows 😂) Mel is so friendly and welcoming, all in all a perfect little site for a getaway!!!
