Rural setting

  • Traditional back to basics site on eight acres of rural Cornwall
  • A 15-minute drive from Pentewan beach and 20 minutes from Eden Project
  • Ball games welcome; plenty of space and dark skies on site
Fancy yourself a slice of rural Cornwall life? Get stuck into a traditional country stay at Adaura Meadows Campsite, a family-run back to basics site spread over eight acres of rural Cornwall. The central setting of this site will be hugely helpful for folks who want to zig-zag their way around locations on the north and south coasts… Flesh out that to-do list with fishing villages such as Charlestown and Mevagissey, which are both under 20 minutes’ drive from the site, or go sailing in Fowey, 35 minutes’ drive away. Your base is within 15 minutes’ drive of a handful of beaches, and just 15 minutes from The Lost Gardens of Heligan or 20 minutes from the famed Eden Project’s rainforest biomes. What else do you get here? Well, dark skies are one splendid aspect for stargazers. As it's south-facing, the site also has stunning sunrises and sunsets. There’s plenty of space for ball games across the site. Plus, dogs are welcome (for a small additional fee) as long as they’re kept on leads. Those views of the countryside are surely worth mentioning too – and as a proper rural setting, there are often visits from local wildlife. This is a real back to basics site, with just drinking water, a composting toilet and disposal points for chemical and grey waste. Large groups are welcome, as are awnings and extra cars – there's plenty of space here.

Local attractions

A small ramble with a bit of history, perhaps? Get behind the steering wheel and pull up to the Wheal Martyn Clay Works (10 minutes’ drive), where the Clay Trails weave through Cornwall’s historic China Clay landscape. The Wheal Martyn Clay Works is a 26-acre museum that will quickly get you acquainted with 250 years of history. Keener to step off dry land and get into the water? The surfing beaches of Newquay (half an hour) are to the north. You could go for a swim at the closer spot of Pentewan beach (15 minutes), which is also popular for sea canoeing. There are more beaches near St Ives (50 minutes), of course in addition to art galleries and independent shops. The views are super at Polly Joke beach (35 minutes), which has rocky cliffs and is set next to a stunning section of the South West Coast Path. The National Trust’s St Michael's Mount (55 minutes) is also very easy on the eyes; the medieval castle sits at the top of an island accessed by a tidal causeway – crossing it is an adventure that should appeal to kids and adults alike.
