  • Osborne and Isle of Wight Steam Railway both 20 minutes' drive
  • Woodburner, kitchen, barbecue and private bathroom for each tent
Comfortable, cosy and in a cracking location for an Isle of Wight family holiday – that should just about sum up Wight Classic Camping, a glamping site in a peaceful and private woodland setting at a working farm in the west of the island about 10 minutes’ drive from Newport. This location feels nicely tucked away but it’s in an excellent spot for all sorts of days out, from visiting historic attractions and riding the heritage railway to hitting the beach or meeting cute animals at farm parks. It’s also just a short walk away (along a bridle path) from Newtown National Nature Reserve. All sorts of comforts and amenities are provided here – after a long day of exploring the island, you’ll be able to come back to a comfy safari tent with proper beds (with high-quality bed linen), a private bathroom (with a flushing toilet, hot shower and fluffy towels) and a well-equipped kitchen with a full-size dining table. There’s also a living area with sofas and a woodburner for cosy evenings in. Outside is just as lovely – you’ll be able to soak up the views or the starry skies from your private deck, which has a table and chairs, plus a barbecue and firepit. You’ll also have access to a shared outdoor kitchen for a fun alfresco cooking experience. And it’s not all about food you’ve prepped yourself here – there’s also a farm-made produce business on site with things like home-made cakes, yogurts, ice creams and breakfast goods. Getting around on the island should be nice and easy as there’s public transport just at the end of the lane; ferry discounts are also available if you ask ahead.

Route directions

The tents are situated at Calbourne Classics; look out for a blue Calbourne Classics sign at the end of a concrete road. As you follow the road and enter the farm, passing two large silos on your right, look ahead to see a wooden chalet-type building (the office). Bear left just before the wooden chalet and park on the gravel on the left.
