  • Laidback family-friendly farm site close to the Merseyside coast
  • A 10-minute drive from Southport and 20 minutes from Formby
  • Play area and small pool on site; walking distance to farm shop
Fancy a bit of family farm fun, mixed up with days spent splashing about at the seaside? Make your way to Merseyside and a stay at Jacksmere Camping, a farm site 10 minutes’ drive from Southport. Tucked away in a rural location, in high season this is a place where kids can scramble about at a straw-bale play area, jump about on a bouncy castle (inflated for an hour in the morning and again in the evening) and splash about in a small above-ground pool that gets put up and filled daily in warmer weather. There are ponies to meet on site too, and rides may be available at times if you ask nicely. All of this adds up to a lively family atmosphere in the school holidays; outside of these times, there's usually a more chilled-out vibe on site. Pitches here are nicely flat and have access to essential facilities including wifi and clean and functional toilets and showers. If campfires are a key part of your outdoor break, you can hire a firepit on site and get a blaze going for a cosy evening of stories as the sun goes down. Fires are only allowed in the site’s rental firepits, so please don’t bring your own. There’s wood for sale on site too – again please don't bring your own. Dogs are welcome on site but you’ll need to keep them on leads at all times because of the ponies (and other guests). There are plenty of local footpaths for walks short or long. This well-connected site is an easy 10-minute drive from Southport, a popular seaside spot where there's much to see and do. Handily, the site is also a 20-minute stroll from two restaurants and an organic farm shop, while the Lord Street shopping area can be reached within about 10 minutes by car.

What customers say

Solid, no-frills camping with friendly staff & animal fun for kids. Basic facilities, some say a bit dated. Expect a relaxed vibe, but noise can be an issue for some. Great value for a simple outdoor getaway.

Disliked Initially waved over by site owner on arrival. Was told to pitch tent in small gap between two other tents and had to be at right angles to trees. Upon building the tent was then informed we could have placed tent further away from trees (frustrating), therefore would have created much more space for everyone. Massive field but for some reason he insisted everyone put all tents within yards of each other. It clearly states on the website that the tents are to be planned out in a zigzag formation to create space between tents, especially incase of emergencies like fires. I was asked to move my car several times, so the owner could fit even more tents in to small gaps. Large group of lads next to us who were loud and up till 5am. The owner said he had spoken to them 3 times throughout the night, which we didnt hear or see him do so, then gone to bed and put his headphones on so he couldn't hear them. Solving the problem for himself, alone. Site owners dog was roaming the field, unleashed and fouling without him picking up the mess, even though it clearly states all dogs are to be kept on leashes at all times(Picture below). We were asked to pay £60 by the owner for two nights, having already paid £9.50 deposit. We message him asking about the overpayment but was read and ignored(picture below). Whilst sitting outside the tent, we overheard(loud) conversation between an Asian family and the owner in which the owner asked the lady if she was making chicken chow mein or sweet sour chicken for tea. Nothing like a bit of racism thrown in to boot. 3 horses in the smallest part of the field left out in direct sunlight all day at 25 degrees. The amount of space he gave all the tents in total, would have fit in the tiny horse paddock, least the horses would have had some room. Toilet and shower facilities very basic and out dated. Could do with a revamp but clean enough. Female camper with two children was doing more work than the owner, guiding cars on arrival and providing activities for the camps children.

From the manager: 1) Very busy weekend and a popular site
Can’t keep all happy Most were !
2) Campers come from via different web sites
Some pay deposits others don’t If extra paid without telling us at the time - it will be refunded when office is open during the week

Liked Fantastic owner very friendly and helpful, we had a lovely corner plot a little further from other tents which was great and more suitable for my little boy due to his additional needs and our first time camping. My little boy loved the slide and trampoline well monitored by owner to check on numbers using. Very clean toilets and shower block.

Liked Loved Jacksmere. My 10 year old is an animal lover so the ponies ducks and chickens were a big hit. She also loved the trampoline. Plenty of toilets, and washing up facilities.

Liked Don't let the bad review's put you off. We stayed a weekend with our young daughter and had a great time. Dave the owner is a down to earth helpful guy and a good laugh. Our daughter got to ride the ponies and loved seeing the chickens and ducks on site. Toilet blocks are dated but always clean. Don't go expecting 5 star camping and you will be fine. We will defiantly be returning.

Liked Not much really

Disliked Big field but all on top of each other in one corner. The price was £30 I paid £4.50 deposit online when booking and had to pay £25.50 cash on arrival. We was approached by the owner on arrival who asked for cash straight away told my partner it was £30 and took the full amount. I would have probably given it to him but he just took it which I thought was very rude. Later in the evening there was another tent pitch up right next to our tent we was just having a lie down when the owner shouted through tent door come for my money 🤬 I said u have already had it!! I was furious by this point. To top it off the tent that came late on was 3 teenage boys and they was up messing around till 1.30am which was when I finally fell asleep. When we got up we packed straight up and left never to return 😱😱

Local attractions

Seaside days in Southport surely have to be on the cards when you’re staying here – it’s only a 10-minute drive away, so it’s easy to get there for beach times, visits to Southport Pleasureland and Southport Model Railway Village. There’s also the British Lawnmower Museum if you’re into niche attractions. Elsewhere along the coast you could head to Formby (20 minutes’ drive) in search of red squirrels or make your way to Crosby (35 minutes) to see Antony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’ installation on the beach. Turning inland, you could visit Windmill Animal Farm (15 minutes), WWT Martin Mere (15 minutes) or the National Trust’s Rufford Old Hall (20 minutes). For a bit of big-city buzz, spend the day in Liverpool (40 minutes), strolling round the Royal Albert Dock and shopping areas, visiting the various museums and iconic football grounds, and trying out a whole lot of food options.
