  • Small family-run site with Ribble Valley views in Lancashire
  • A 20-minute drive to Gisburn Forest bike paths, Pendle Hill and Settle
  • Dog-friendly site with dedicated exercise area; pub 15 minutes’ walk
Keen to have a look at Lancashire and a sneaky peek into Yorkshire? Lurk for a while at Calder Farm for a peaceful break with views to Pendle Hill in the spectacular Ribble Valley. This is a scenic pitstop for exploring the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (10 minutes’ drive) or hopping counties into the Yorkshire Dales National Park (20 minutes). Sparkling clean facilities on this family-run site include a heated toilet block with disabled access to the showers and washing-up area. Barbecues are permitted (but not open campfires please), and you’ll need to bring your own firepit, although you can buy wood on site and picnic tables are provided on the tree-sheltered field. Stock up on barbecue supplies in the supermarkets of Clitheroe (15 minutes’ drive), and if you’re just not that into cooking on your Lancashire camping break, there’s a gastro-pub and microbrewery in the pretty village of Bolton by Bowland (15 minutes’ walk). Your family dogs are welcome to join you on the many footpaths direct from the site, and there’s also a dedicated dog-exercise area in a fenced field – the owners do ask, however, that dogs remain on a lead while around the site. And talking of animals, you’ll soon be firm friends with the horses and ponies grazing neighbouring fields.

Great spot, quiet, lovely country views. Clean facilities, big pitches, friendly owners. Easy to get to pubs & walks. Dogs welcome. Minor shower pressure grumbles, but most are keen to go back.

Oak camping pod

Liked The pod was lovely. Everything we needed including lots of USB sockets. View was amazing. Great base for exploring

Disliked The water in the shower was barely lukewarm. Had to contact owner and they reset the water flow to make it hot, owner suggested we use camping shower block, which seemed a bit odd. Would be nice if pod and seating area were completely enclosed. We couldn't let dog out as area wasn't secure. Few more shelves in pod would be handy

Acorn Pod camping pod

Liked Spent a comfortable week in Acorn Pod with zero issues. Pod had everything we needed for our stay but you do need to bring your own duvet and pillows which wasn't a problem. Pod is surrounded by beautiful views of the countryside and Pendal hill, site was peaceful and clean with WiFi included in the price.
Claire stopped by to say hi and see if there was anything we needed, nothing was too much trouble for her and she even put a traffic cone on the plot next to our pod so that my father could be near us in his caravan.
This was our second stay in the site's Pods, last time we were in Oak Pod. There's not much different between the 2 pods other than Oak has a built in hob where Acorn is 1 that needs to be popped on the counter and plugged in to use and Oak also has usb ports in the plug sockets where Acorn doesn't. Layouts in both pods are exactly the same and I'd happily stay in either pod again.
