  • Well-maintained and peaceful adults-only site in the Forest of Bowland
  • A 10-minute drive to Clitheroe; half an hour to Skipton
  • Views to Pendle Hill and River Ribble; pubs within walking distance
Plenty of peace and quiet should be all yours for the taking at Bow Laithe Caravan Site – this small site five minutes’ drive from Bolton-by-Bowland has been set up specifically for adults only and doesn’t accept large groups, so you be assured of space to chill out without noisy disturbances. This is a splendid location for walks and cycling nearby, as it’s surrounded by lovely Lancashire countryside and just on the edge of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Once you’ve done extensive explorations of the forest, you can expand your horizons into the Yorkshire Dales National Park with a drive of half an hour or so. And it’s also a splendid location for taking in the scenery without having to even get up from your pitch: the site has views out over Pendle Hill and the River Ribble, which flows just past the park. If it’s just a short stroll you’re after, perhaps a wander to one of the two pubs within a 20-minute walk would fit the bill? Rather spend an alfresco evening on your pitch? You’re welcome to light up a barbecue to cook your dinner and warm your hands by – supplies can be picked up at the various supermarkets in Clitheroe, 10 minutes’ drive away. Kids may have been asked to stay away but you’re allowed to bring dogs along to share your break at Bow Laithe. When you arrive, please pick any free pitch and settle down for your stay.

Liked Nothing.

Disliked Uneven ground. Outside lights wasn’t working. Signposted walks didn’t lead anywhere with uneven footing so if you struggle with walking it may be difficult. Didn’t have water to fill up motorhome. You had to fill up with the drinking water, which was a struggle being a bigger motorhome if you’re a small motorhome you may of found it easier to. The campsite is basically a massive backyard in someone’s backyard. Noisy road right next to the site. No views only views were bushes and someone’s backyard. And a field if you were lucky you’d get to see some cows on that field. Advertise as adult only which were true in our visit however, the backyard next to the campsite clearly had children’s playset. When we voiced our concerns about the water to the owners. They were unprofessional and unhelpful. No customer service skills.

Liked Easy access, no one bothered you, lovely walk along the river from site to the pub. Easy to book. Friendly grandad of the owner. Great view of fields with sheep.

Disliked Although on a fairly small lane it must be a cut through. Our caravan was next to the road and at times it was a little noisy

We loved it!

Disliked Only area to improve was there was no water in the sink of the portaloo. The loo itself was clean, but would have liked to be able to wash hands whilst in the toilet, not when back at pitch

From the manager: Hier very sorry about water in portaloo if you would have said we would have sorted it sorry again kerry

Local attractions

Ready to give your walking boots a workout? Perhaps start with a trip to Gisburn Forest Hub (15 minutes’ drive) to pick up trail maps from the visitor centre, or try one of the trails in the Trough of Bowland (half an hour). While you’re over that way, you may like to drop in at the Bowland Wild Boar Park (half an hour) to meet a selection of animals. If you’d like to add a touch of history and culture to your walks, aim for the Pendle Sculpture Trail (20 minutes), or plan routes that take in the ruins of Sawley Abbey (five minutes) or Clitheroe Castle (10 minutes). Bancroft Mill Engine Museum (20 minutes) and Ribchester Roman Museum (25 minutes) are good options if you’d like to skip straight to the museums. Over in the Yorkshire Dales, there’s a whole lot more to explore, including waterfalls, caves and breweries. If you don’t know where to start, Skipton (for the castle and market) and Malham (for walks to Malham Cove and Janet’s Foss) are good options. Both are about half an hour away by car.
