  • Peaceful, isolated site on a secluded Lancashire farm
  • A half-hour drive from Blackpool beach and Forest of Bowland
  • Simple grass pitches down a long farm track, 10 minutes from the M6
Oh to be on a peaceful, secluded spot in the lovely Lancashire countryside, with forests, the Lakes and big cities not far off… such is the atmosphere at Moss Rose Campsite, a relaxing site about 10 minutes’ drive from the M6 and half an hour north of Preston. This is a splendid spot for those who’d like a bit of peace and quiet – pitches are on a simple grass field well away from any neighbours. You’ll have to travel down a long farm track to get here (it’s rather rough and bumpy, so take it slowly) but the reward is a spacious and secluded stay on a small traditional family-run working farm with views out over fields of farm animals. (The owners describe it as ‘somewhat alike to The Darling Buds of May’, for those who remember such telly treats.) Because of those farm animals, dogs are welcome as long as they are well behaved and kept under control. Kids are also very welcome, and you’re able to set up barbecues for your evening meal (as long as you’re careful with them…) There’s a pub a couple of miles away if you fancy a pint or a bite to eat. Day trips around here might take you to the coast at Blackpool or Morecambe, inland to the Forest of Bowland or Lake District or for a bit of city action in Liverpool or Manchester, both of which are a little over an hour’s drive away (also making this site also a good place for city dwellers who fancy a quick escape without a long drive).

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked This camp site ticked all of our boxes!: Kelly and Joe were amazing hosts and nothing to much trouble for them
Loved the space allocated for each pitch and how the hosts are so keen on preserving nature.
All the animals were really cute and each had names too.
The little playground in the middle of the site was used every waking hour for my grandson - he made lots of lovely friends too.
The toilets and shower were really adequate and kept clean through out of stay - with plenty of stock of toilet rolls and toiletries!!
The washing area was fabulous! Even Abel loved doing the dishes and always detergent available (we did take our own too!)
Supplies are also available from the honesty shed - lovely touch.
This is by far one of the best campsites I have visited - if you are looking for peace and quiet and lots of nature then this place is perfect.
Our camping visits are done for this year but next year this place will definitely be on our agenda to visit.. more than once too. We absolutely loved it.
Thank you too Kelly and Joe and their son x

Disliked There was nothing about this trip that we disliked.
We gave 1 star for WiFi because you do not need it.. this is a place to enjoy and take in the views and acknowledge the peace. Leave your phones, laptops etc. at home.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Beautifully laid out and spacious and will be even better when the trees grow, would love to return in Spring/early Summer. We felt very well looked after, the owners were always on hand when needed and so friendly and cheerful. Toilets and showers were clean and other facilities were all handy and well thought out.

Disliked Would have liked more rubbish recycling opportunities. Toilets and showers are due to be extended/improved which will be a boost.

Doyles Dell - Fully Enclosed unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site (secluded)

Liked A gem of a campsite. Lots of choices with the kind of camping experience you want - they have bell tents, basic pitches, glamping pods. Toilet and shower block nice and clean with a light and a kid's toilet seat and stool was provided. Washing up facilities clean and there was washing up liquid and a sponge (2 things I always forget). There is a well stocked honesty shack where you can get wood, snacks, drinks etc. Charging lockers. The views are great, the pre check in text was really helpful and appreciated and ensured we knew exactly where we were going when we arrived to the area. My kids loved the little birds and the nature walk at the bottom of the site as well as the little play area. The site works hard to maintain natural long grass patches for wildlife. The staff were so friendly, welcoming and approachable. Couldn't fault it - would definitely come back. We stayed in Doyles Dell which is a private, enclosed pitch which was perfect for our 3 year old twins. Clean and tidy site and the provided some recycling and bin bags! Again, something I always forget so it's good when campsites provide the little things. Excellent rural location but close enough to the coast and other places you might like to visit.

Disliked A few more electric pitches perhaps? But it's really not needed. Off grid camping is the best. There is a windmill near the site. But overall couldn't fault this place. They've tried their best to think of everything you could possibly need to make your stay enjoyable. Thanks a lot.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Gorgeous site with gorgeous surroundings. Definitely out in the sticks but not too far away from civilisation too. The hosts Joe and John were really welcoming and helpful. Plenty of space between pitches. Loved the idea of a fridge and microwave available to use and the honesty shed with cans of pop and ice lollies was a lovely idea for kids. We enjoyed the evenings chilling watching the sun go down. Weather was perfect (slight rain shower one morning. All in all a great find.

Disliked Only issue there was only a hot tap in the loos/shower block at the sink, which made brushing teeth a bit odd. Compromised by taking cold water in a bottle to use.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Everything!! Me, my husband and our 3 little kids have been camping all throughout the 6 weeks holidays and we have stayed at some nice places but this one was absolutely lush! There is Enough room between us and other campers, there is a little play part for the kids in the middle of the site which is fantastic because you can still see them from your pitch but also get your own but peace 😏, they have a couple of different animals on site that can be seen, we were lucky enough to buy 3 ducklings to bring home aswell. We also enjoyed their own little wood walkway which we were lucky enough to find some baby frogs! The owners them selves are all spot on Kelly, Joe and there little boy Stan were all so lovely and welcoming and not forgetting grandad John he was the first person who we seen when we arrived and straight away he set the bar just totally put us at ease and made my little family feel so settled straight away. All round a lovely little campsite ran by a lovely family. It's the Perfect place for the kids to be free and feral at safe distance and you to have your own little peace and quiet as a parent 🥰✌🏻

Local attractions

Before you get straight to your adventuring, there’s a farm shop and ice cream parlour called Wallings Ice Cream (15 minutes' drive) that will make sure your tummy’s well prepared for all the action. For action, the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (half an hour) is just the place - have a pedal between rural villages, picking up farm produce as you go. The Lake District National Park (45 minutes) has plenty more trails or watersports for those looking to get a dip in. But what about those city days out also? The bright lights of Blackpool (half an hour) are hardly far away, and for more sightseeing, Manchester (an hour and 10 minutes) and Liverpool (an hour and 15 minutes) make for some great day trips. If you’re a fan of the busy buzz and action Lancaster (half an hour) has museums and a city park or Morecambe (half an hour) has a splendid seafront… but for more wildlife instead, head to the Wild Discovery animal park (half an hour).
