  • Top-notch family holiday park on the edge of Silloth
  • Close to the Galloway Hills and Lake District National Park
  • Indoor pool, restaurant-bar and busy activity/entertainment programme
Off to explore the Lake District, the Scottish Borders or Hadrian's Wall – and want to stay at a holiday park with heaps to do on site for when you’re not out and about? Nearby Solway Holiday Park should fit the bill, as it's had several million pounds on updating its leisure facilities to make this 130-acre holiday park a highly sought-after place to stay on the stunning Solway Firth coast. It’s also located within walking distance of the Victorian seaside town of Silloth, in a handy spot for all sorts of outings on both sides of the England/Scotland border. That mix means you can really tailor your holiday to your own tastes, whether you’re planning to explore the scenery of the Lake District National Park and Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, hit the beach or focus your attentions on the activities available on site (or some combination of all of the above…) And those activities… well, there are lots and lots of them to fill your time with. The indoor pool, sports field and games arcade might be a place to start (all of these being free to use) while you consider which of the other activities you might like to join in with. Might it be aqua games, teddy bear hunts or pirates and princesses adventures for the younger kids, or archery, zorbing, axe throwing and bird of prey experiences for older guests? Head over to reception to find out the options and put your schedule together. It’s really worth finding some time for the entertainment too – there’s a packed programme of all sorts from kids’ shows through karaoke and bingo to live music from top-notch performers. Of course, all the practicalities are covered here too – the site has a launderette, a mini market and a restaurant/bar that’s open through the day for breakfasts, lunches, dinners and drinks.

What customers say

Great for families! Lots to do, clean facilities (new loos!), and friendly staff. Pool and arcades are a hit. Downsides: muddy pitches after rain and some noise. Renovations are happening, so expect good things.

Liked New toilet block.

Disliked Filthy site with lots of rubbish strewn around. No where to drop grey water and a single drinking water tap to try to fill up the on board fresh water tank. Those two was not in an accessible place and had to be abandoned.

Liked Gluten free menu options
Sign posted clearly
Clean well maintained toiletsArcade staff friendly and polite fantastic with autistic son picking prizes

Disliked Limited swim session and having to book a day in advance, this should be more clearly advertised.

Male life guard would only talk to female swimmers, noted for a good 45 minutes this was very off putting for family . When I did attempt to speak with him he passed me on to another life guard so he could continue a casual conversation with a group of females.

Arcade is very understaffed and constant issues with machines on multiple visits

Liked The pizzas are very nice but a little expensive. Plenty to do for children on site.

Disliked Even though stated minimum distance of 3 metres between pitches we was lucky if we have 1.5m between tents either side of us. Pitches are not as big as stated. Our 6x4m tent just about fit on our pitch. Very noisy at night, lots of people making noise after the 11pm curfew. Lot of rubbish around the site, hardly saw any workers in the touring part of the site over the 4 days we was there.

Liked The camp is a nice size and a lot to do, we had teenagers but managed to book swimming although our trip was cut short and only there 36 hours as the storm took hold 4 Aug 2025

Disliked Upon arrival the reception was closed speaking to what seemed like a call
Centre overseas. After half a hr waiting around finally file me pitch numbers.
The pitch was full of stones so getting the tent pegs in was a nightmare.
After our tent was up we realised we had pitch on dog poo the whole area outside and inside our tent stank disgusting!!!
The electric hook up was a distance from the tent so 4 extension leads as didn’t have the long electrical one which I suggest is a must here.
People had left The day after we arrived and left broken mirror, rubbish, tent pegs bins over flowing.
Toilets grubby toilet roll everywhere kids in and out with no shoes and mucky wet floor I didn’t see any cleaners in or around in fact I saw one member of staff on a little buggy there was no staff to be seen.
Showers were ok not much facilities here a plug for hairdryer and straighteners would be ideal. ( hair dryers are fitted) The ceiling for the showers is a high gloss so as soon as my autistic daughter saw these she was worried people would see her reflection and I sure could see her as I waited for her. No shelves in shower for bottles constantly pressing shower every 3 seconds and bending down to pick bottles up while holding toothbrush, could be so much easier with the addition of a shelf.
The restaurant is extortionate we decided to cook ourselves, £14 for a margarita from the pizza van, fish box was so tasteless frozen chicken burgers and just overpriced.

Liked Cleanliness of toilets and showers and the washing up station.
Good size pitches nice to have the trees as shelter.
Swimming pool was great
Restaurant was clean and arcades handy
Shop was brilliant with so much useful stuff.
Amazingly clean around the whole site.
Pottery was brilliant and very reasonably priced.

Disliked Not being able to book the pool more than once in a day.
Checkout could be an hour later
Restaurant was average but unorganised and food was just warm.
Evening entertainment was mostly geared towards younger children not great for older kids.
Arcades were far too loud.
A park nearer the camping pitches would be great.
An electric hook up on each pitch would be better or let people know they need longer wires as we unfortunately couldn’t make use of the electric even though we had paid for it as our cable was too short.

Local attractions

On the English side of the Firth, Solway guests can reach the north-western lakes of the Lake District National Park, day trips to Carlisle and the hills and stargazing of Northumberland National Park. On the Scottish side, you could hike the Galloway Hills, run away to Gretna or drive further afield to urban days out at Edinburgh or Glasgow. (To see it all at once, take a trip to championship Solway Golf Course where you can tee around to views of the Lakeland Fells, Galloway Hills and across to the Isle of Man.) Moseying towards Northumberland (stop off at Carlisle Castle and The Lanes shopping centre on the way), friends, Romans and countrymen can walk as much of the Hadrian’s Wall Path as they can manage: it’s the north of England’s most visited tourist attraction and most of it runs along the Solway Firth on its way to Northumberland. Happily for such a family-centred site, kiddish fun is all around Solway Holiday Park too: farm park Orton Grange, getting open-mouthed at the fish and other inhabitants at Lake District Coast Aquarium, or going on a hop around award-winning World of Beatrix Potter.
