  • Quiet family-friendly pop-up site in the Lake District National Park
  • Derwentwater 10 minutes’ walk; Keswick shops five minutes’ drive
  • Activity centre next door and River Greta strolls from the pitches
A handy five minutes’ drive from Keswick shops, tearooms and pubs in the Lake District National Park, the spacious pitches at pop-up Keswick Camping are new for 2025. There’s certainly plenty to do here, with an activity centre on site, tennis courts within 10 minutes’ walk and a local golf course (10 minutes’ drive) nearby too. Derwentwater (10 minutes’ walk) is also close at hand for sailing, kayaking or paddleboarding plus views of the photogenic slopes of Catbells, or you can have a quiet ramble with the kids along the River Greta, which runs alongside the pitches. This pop-up site is set up for families, so if you’re looking for rowdy late nights it is not the place for you. The camping field has room for kicking a ball around, and you can soon be out in the countryside to give any dogs a stretch of their paws. As it also has a back-to-nature, adventure camping vibe, there are few facilities – no electric hook-ups, showers or cooking facilities – but there are spotless separate loos for men and women, and standing water taps around the perimeter of the field.

Unpowered grass and earth tent site

Liked The site was clean and had space for the advertised pitches. A very short walk to the town center and easy to find. Most other site users were quiet and friendly. The toilets were very clean and the site had ample bins for waste. Would stay again.

Disliked The car park is quite small (might be worse at the moment due to school holidays). a few site users were quite disruptive at midnight coming back from the pubs, but that feels like pot luck of who's staying there. Only one tent out of around 20 was noisy, the rest were very quiet. It's a bit confusing on how you check in - no instructions on how you check in when you arrive and no indication of which pitch is yours.

Liked Great location ,handy for town centre

Disliked We had 2nights the Friday was lovely with everyone respecting each other other nice n quiet , but on Saturday it was a different story with people up till 4am .I think a quite time would be a great idea and it gets policed!

From the manager: Thank you so much for your feedback and for staying with us! We’re glad you enjoyed the great location and had a peaceful Friday night. We're really sorry to hear about the disturbance on Saturday, that’s certainly not the experience we aim to provide.

Just to let you know, our quiet hours are from 11pm to 7am, and we do our best to ensure they are respected. We’ll be following up on this to make sure all guests are aware and that these hours are better enforced going forward.

We really appreciate your comments and your recommendation, and we’d love to welcome you back again soon!

Reasonable price, quiet, very clean, near town.

Unpowered grass and earth tent site

Liked Small well maintained. Toilets new and very smart and clean. No showers, but I think most people can do without one for a couple of days, you can always get a good wash in the sinks in the toilets. Water taps all around the camping field. Also it's realy only 10 mins walk from the shops in Keswick and only 5 mins from the pristine park on the other side of the river that runs through Keswick. Very quiet site with no noise whatsoever from the road which is a good few 100m away from the camping field. Also a dog friendly site which is a bonus for me.

Disliked Only very small downside that is not realy a big problem was that just below the grass surface where I pitched was a layer of gravel that took a bit of getting the tent pegs into (a mallet would have sorted this). I don't know if it was the same on the whole field but it's worth knowing about so you can come prepared. I managed without a mallet but having one would have made things much easier.

From the manager: Thank you so much for the lovely review! We're really glad you enjoyed your stay at Keswick Camping, sounds like you made the most of the peaceful location, and it’s great to hear the toilet facilities and easy access to town and the park worked well for you. Also happy to hear it suited both your granddaughter and your Cockapoo, we love being a family and dog friendly site!
Appreciate you mentioning the gravel just below the surface too, not something that affects the whole field, but definitely a good tip for future campers to bring a mallet just in case.

We’d love to welcome you back again soon — thanks again for the kind words!

Unpowered grass and earth tent site

Liked Good location if wanting to walk in to Keswick and Derwent water. Clean toilets

Disliked Tents pitching far too close to each other. Cars driving on to the field late in the evening. Noisy campers not respecting others and noise into the early hours of the morning which ruined next day plans.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.
We're pleased to hear you found the location convenient for exploring Keswick and Derwent Water, and that our toilet facilities met your expectations.

We're really sorry that your experience was affected by noise and crowding. We understand how important a good night's rest is, especially when you’ve got plans the next day. While we do have quiet hours in place from 11pm to 7am, it’s clear we need to do more to ensure they’re consistently respected, and we’ll be looking at ways to improve this.

Regarding tent spacing and vehicle access, we appreciate you bringing this to our attention, we’re currently reviewing how we manage both to ensure a better experience for everyone.

Thanks again for your honest feedback — it helps us improve, and we hope we might have the chance to welcome you again in the future under better circumstances.
