What customers say

Beautiful, peaceful riverside spot with friendly staff. Well-kept pitches, mostly clean facilities. Great for exploring Western Lakes, with a handy pub nearby. Some Wi-Fi niggles and dated bits, but most reckon it's top-notch and will be back.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site (super)

Liked We had an absolutely fantastic 2 night stay at The Old Post Office campsite! The shower blocks were spotless and modern, and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. It was so peaceful at night. Strong WiFi. We'd give it six stars if we could! Highly recommend. Pub is a small walk around the corner. We came back for another night because we had to cut out journey short and the guys helped us out with a pitch.

Disliked NOTHING!! 😁

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Really enjoyed staying on this campsite. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Toilet block was clean showers were hot, your not packed in like sardines. Nice little pub nearby that we took refuge in when the rains came in. Some campers took a dip in the river.
Other reviews are correct about 50p for a shower, but if you don’t have a 50p coin go speak to the staff they will sort you out.
There was a bit of noise from the road behind but most people were up and about early making the most of there days in the lakes anyway.
10mins drive from Wasdale head and load of great walks. I will definitely be back.

Disliked Nout.

Liked It has showers and toilet facilities on site and also washing up area , also has a fridge and freezer to use aswell as a laundrette love the river than ran at the back of the camp, you do have to pay 50p for showers but staff on site have plenty of change if you dont have it and lasts for about 10mins
Altho a bit pricy would definitely stay again

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site (super)

Liked The pitch was very private with a hedge, and it had a nice wooden picnic table. There's a lovely bit of side grass for your use. The toilets and showers were clean. Hook up to electrics and waste next to pitch. Lovely surroundings by the banks of a river, and a couple of walks for your dogs and a pub next door.

Disliked Difficult to leave the entrance in the vehicle due to blind spot...perhaps an additional mirror to show blind spot?

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked A very nice quiet get away with a nearby pub mostly tidy and clean lovely looking site and a good layout

Disliked Male member of staff extremely rude we had a broken windbreaker so we thought we do the right thing and put it in a bin however we was rudely told “your taking that home with you” in the harshest and rudest tone possible after spending 100+ pounds to stay somewhere access to the bin facilities would have been nice will not be returning after that

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

The bins are for General/house hold waste and not for tented items, chairs and canvases, this will have been briefed to you on arrival.

I have spoken to My male colleague and checked the cctv that shows you had already left the site, there was no attempt made by you to put your items in our waste bins, instead after leaving the site you then reversed back up the road with your hazards on, of which my colleague then stopped you from attempting to fly tip your items into the unoccupied empty cottages adjacent to the campsite, this is why you were told to take your belongings home with you in a robust manner. Fly tipping within the confines of the Lake District National Park is illegal and extremely frowned upon.

I am sorry that this has affected your holiday as a result giving a four star review.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site (super)

Liked Lovely small friendly site. We had a peaceful stay here in our Hymer, pitch next to the river. Clean toilets and showers. Helpful staff. Two minute walk to a decent pub selling food. Lovely location, beautiful scenery with walks on the doorstep. Would recommend.

Local attractions

Pull on your comfiest boots and walk yourself to merriment around these Cumbrian parts: just over five miles away in Wasdale is one of Britain’s tiniest churches, St Olafs, with its timber beams thought to have been made from Viking ships. Hikers, hotstep to the mighty heights of Scafell Pike and Great Gable (both about seven miles away) and Red Pike (approximately 20 miles north of the site). At the Wasdale Valley, as well as nurturing peaks aplenty, canoeists, kayakers and windsurfers alike will rapidly make their way to Wast Water, just five minutes from the site, the deepest lake in the UK. Cycling and walking routes around the lakes and mountains are plentiful, as are the chances for boating and fishing, but if you really want to go off-piste, you could try abseiling, climbing, a high ropes course, or even flying: hot air balloon and paragliding experiences are available for those who want to soar even higher than Scafell.
