  • Friendly site in the grounds of historic Stretton House
  • A 10-minute drive from Pickmere Lake; and 20 minutes from Manley Mere
  • Farm shop nearby; barbecues and firepits allowed
If you like the sound of having farm shops and ice cream farms nearby, as well as access to lots of walking and cycling trails, Stretton House Campsite should be a fine pick for you. It has a strict no-noise policy after 10pm, meaning that you should get a peaceful night's sleep too. This site is in the grounds of the 400-year-old Stretton House, surrounded by the Cheshire countryside, with handy transport links nearby and outdoor activities in no short supply… that includes things like alpaca walking, golf or Manley Mere’s watersports haven (a 20-minute drive away for the latter). You’ll have your pick of two fields, both with car parking by the pitch and dogs allowed. The facilities include separate male and female toilet blocks, a washing-up area with hot water and a shower block where a small fee is required for every five minutes in the shower. You’ll have permission to start up a barbecue or firepit too (subject to the correct safety measures). When you’re ready to get going, the friendly owners will be willing to help out however they can and suggest possible days out, which may include fishing or walking at Pickmere Lake (10 minutes’ drive), visiting an ice cream farm (within 10 minutes’ drive of the site) or going to the local golf course (five minutes’ drive). For food, there’s a farm shop just two minutes’ walk away from the site where you’ll be able to get your hands on local produce. Pubs aren’t far away either – there is one pub five minutes' walk away, and another 15 minutes' walk away. Festival goers are very welcome, and the Creamfields Festival site is five minutes’ drive away. Please respect the quiet hours (no noise is permitted after 10pm) and environment, as the owners' home is on the grounds (and stick to the field's facilities only).

What customers say

Stretton Hall Camping gets a thumbs up for its ripper owners, spotless facilities, and chilled-out vibe. Great spot for checking out local sights or festivals, with easy transport mentioned. While some thought it was a bit basic and dear for what's on offer (especially the shower situation), others loved the quiet and flexibility. Most would happily come back.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Modern toilet and shower facilities

Very well kept and facilities cleaned to a good standard routinely

Great location; farm-shop over the road, pubs local (although some are closed down), walks and running routes are decent

The field is never quite very populated … I can’t stand cramped sites!

Disliked Nothing at the price, but an added benefit would be a small play area for kids - just wooden build, even obstacle course kind; there’s enough real estate for it

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked 2 lovely fields to choose from. Plenty of room for everyone. Lovely, peaceful site. Dog and family friendly but everyone was very respectful and quiet and there was no disturbing noise at all after 9pm.

Toilets very clean and the washing up area and cold fresh water tap were handy too.
Great location, only minutes from the motor way.

Great place to relax for a weekend or a great base to go out for day trips or exploring near by attractions. We went wild swimming at Horse Shoe Falls (50 mins away) and had a great day. Lots of people paddleboarding there too.

You can park your car by your tent too which is always helpful.

There is a carbon sale at the site on a Sunday once a month. Tents needs to be packed away by 11am so the field can be used as a car park for visitors. You can keep your car on the site though and visit the cartoon sale if you wish. Worth bearing in mind if staying at the weekend or over weekend and into the week. Maybe ask before booking.

The owner is very friendly and helpful with great knowledge of the local area and attractions to visit. No question was too big or small.

We also ate out locally at The Partrige pub/restaurant which was amazing. The staff were super friendly and the food was outstanding.

We will definitely re-visit Stretton Hall Camping again and recommend it to single campers, couples and families. It's a great site for everyone.

Disliked We had quite a few wasps around our tent but that's our fault for not taking anything with us to deal with them! It's part of being in the countryside and out in nature.
It was also the hottest day of the year so to be expected but worth bearing in mind if you have kids. Take some spray!

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked Easy access and good cafe/farmshop over the road.

Disliked The facilities are pretty dire for the amount of people and cost of booking. Realistically, this is what we pay for from a site as we could park up anywhere and not have good facilities. Paying extra for showers is ridiculous when this is one of the more expensive campsites already.

From the manager: Hi Richard,

Thank you for staying with us and the time you have taken to review our campsite. We clearly advertise all of the facilities we have available and their respective costs if applicable. Perhaps you could offer some explanation as to what you are looking for in exchange for £15 a night. We provide toilets, showers, kitchen sink with hot running water, waste collection, fresh drinking water, elsan facilities, tennis court, dog park, log sales, fresh chicken and duck eggs etc…..perhaps you expected to find a host of other facilities we didn’t advertise when you arrived? Please contact us directly with some improvement suggestions and in exchange we will gladly refund your pitch fee in full.

Kind regards,

Paul

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Stayed for 2 nights, stayed for the nearby 'neighbourhood weekender' festival.
Lovely clean site, nice cafe over the road, great shower block and toilets. Very friendly helpful owners/staff. Packed field with festival goers and all were very happy, even lifts to and from festival and site at great prices. Superb. Well done all at Stretton. Fantastic. And I rarely leave reviews.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked Good location, close to motorway, a farm shop across the road and a couple of good, dog friendly pubs in walking distance.

Disliked Expensive for what you got. £5 a night for the dog is a lot. Ground was rutted and poorly maintained. Portacabin toilets OK but not good enough for £35 a night. No shower and no electric hook-up.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Robert,

Thank you for your booking and your review. I note your comments re the minor rutting on the field. Rather than poor maintenance this represents winter drainage that has been completed to improve the site. The price for pets is clearly advertised and it is your choice whether or not to book for your dog if the price doesn’t appeal. I am surprised that you have chosen to mark us down for services we don’t advertise. As an aside, later this season we will have a shower block that we are renovating currently.
