  • Peaceful family hideaway with pitches in a sheltered paddock
  • Close to Flamingo Land, Pickering and the North York Moors
  • Well-maintained amenities, firepit hire and charging facilities
Popular but peaceful, and small but perfectly formed... these are the excellent elements of North Yorkshire's Hobground Campsite. This friendly and quiet site welcomes all ages to its serene location, with pitches in a sheltered paddock on a site set back a quarter of a mile from the main road. It's well placed for easy exploring: Pickering and Malton are both 15 minutes' drive away, York is 50 minutes, and the North York Moors National Park is 10 minutes to the north. Additionally – cue overexcited honks from the kids – the site is a mere three miles from the theme park and zoo of Flamingo Land. Hobground has a well-maintained shower and toilet block, chemical disposal, charging facilities, ice pack freezing and a washing-up area. Firepits can be hired for an extra charge.

What customers say

Great value, quiet spot in beautiful North Yorkshire. Owners are ace, facilities clean but basic (showers coin-op). Washing up area's a bit rough but still highly recommended. Lots keen to come back.

Liked I found the owner to be very helpful and friendly, the facilities were clean , it is a lovely peaceful site.
We enjoyed watching the deer on an evening in the opposite field and barn owl, buzzard and various other birds.

Liked Had a great couple of days trying out our new tent. Good facilities and very friendly manager. Decent walk to a very friendly pub but a little hairy on some of the bends in the road but all drivers were careful and courteous. Beautiful clear skies for nighttime photography.

Disliked Some of the other campers were obviously novices and just abandoned brand new tents in the bin. Kids were a bit noisy but they were enjoying their holidays and all was quiet around our pitch by 10.30. Some campers felt that they owned the site and were very rude to the site manager/owner even though he was polite and reasonable with them.

Liked Friendly owner & two Labrador dogs.
Large pitches, excellent for family tents.
Long drive so the campsite is fairly quiet and away from the traffic noise.
Two (pay as you use £1) showers available and separate toilets, kept clean and always have toilet paper available.
Fairly centrally located with Scarborough about 35 minutes away.
WiFi available for the children.

Disliked Don't use sat nav or Google maps to find the campsite as it takes you down some small lanes unsuitable for larger vehicles. Best to drive to Pickering follow A170 and look for a turn on the left for Normanby and the campsite is on the left after you drive through the village.
