  • East Yorkshire caravan park 25 minutes’ drive from historic York
  • Castle Howard 25 minutes’ drive and Flamingo Land Resort 35 minutes
  • Grass and hardstanding pitches at a historic former railway station
It’s not every day that you get to camp up at a former railway station, and certainly not one used during World War II for troop movements. Such is your luck when you book a stay at East Yorkshire’s Fangfoss Old Station Caravan Park, 25 minutes’ drive from historic York and its many attractions. Covering 4.5 acres of prime Yorkshire countryside, the park has grown up around the former platforms and railway station (the latter now a Grade II listed building), with some pitches set along the old railway line (it closed in November 1965) and others in a well-drained field. All have electric hook-ups. The roads surrounding the park are good, and there’s no fiddly manoeuvring to be done to get in through the wide entrance gate. Once on site, a service road gives easy access to all the caravan and tent pitches too, and everywhere is lit up at night for ease of movement. Kids are welcome and they can keep themselves safely occupied at the play area. If you’re bringing dogs, please keep them on leads while on the park and pick up any mess. You can exercise your pets on several quiet rural walks direct from the pitches. Park owners Jo and Simon are constantly on hand to help you out and make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

What customers say

Lovely, peaceful spot near York. Rocky's a legend! Good for dogs. Facilities a bit dated but clean. Great for a quiet escape.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel site

Liked A very basic site, warden very friendly and helpful, toilets and showers kept very clean, nice to have a washing machine and dryer available, ( extra cost for these ) dish washing facilities separate from the toilets and showers, site kept clean and bins emptied frequently. Plenty of electric hook ups and several water points,

Disliked They advertised fully serviced grass and gravel pitches, but they don’t have any of these.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel site

Liked Great bank holiday weekend, very relaxed met some great people to chat to, rocky was a star, never stopped all weekend, could do enough for you, great lad, electrics all worked as they should , some sites tend to cut out when you have a lot on, site was very quiet after hours, we will return and would recommend

Disliked A little dated toilet block but still very clean and maintained throughout our stay, I would recommend decent ground pegs as the ground can be hard in places

Fully-serviced grass and gravel site

Liked Rocky was amazing and so helpful. Even though we stayed over a bank holiday weekend it wasn’t loud on a night time, I’d say music was off between 9:30 and 10pm. Very laid back place and very dog friendly. Season pitch holders were all friendly and never any bother. A 20 minute drive to get into York and there’s a huge tesco extra 24 minute drive away. Definitely will be back😊😊

Disliked Toilets/showers werent the best but were clean and always stocked with loo roll and hand wash etc.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel site

Liked I was worried about booking at this site as I had read the bad reviews, but upon arrival and staying at the site I don’t know what all the other reviews are on about we did not experience any of the issues that people had mentioned. Rocky was so welcoming and nothing was to much trouble for him, we had a lovely couple of nights on this site and would definitely be returning this campsite its a little Gem and Rocky is a major asset to this site well done your doing an amazing job. Thank you once again 👏

Fully-serviced grass and gravel site

Liked Had a great weekend! The owner was super friendly and helpful, which really made the stay enjoyable. While the facilities were a bit outdated, everything was clean and well-maintained, so no complaints there. The vibe was very laid-back, and no one seemed bothered by a bit of noise. Adults stayed up late chatting, and the kids had a blast playing games and running around the tents well into the night. Perfect spot if you're looking for a fun and easygoing atmosphere. It’s perfect for a good weekend getaway.

Disliked One tip: the ground was quite firm, so getting the pegs in was a bit tough—I'd recommend using metal pegs and bring a decent hammer.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel site

Liked Rocky, the guy over seeing the site, was very welcoming. We love a laid back site where pitches aren't lined up and not much room to swing a cat. Plenty or grassy areas for us to play our games. Other campers were lovely and joined in our games. Facilities were clean and everything functioned as it should. Brilliant footpath for walking dogs. Kids enjoyed the park. Only thing I'd suggest is a swing for toddlers.
We will be back.

Local attractions

The beguiling city of York (25 minutes’ drive) beckons with its landmark Gothic-era Minster (climb the tower for spectacular views over city rooftops), medieval dioramas at Jorvik Viking Centre and walks around the city walls. You can also take scenic cruises down the River Ouse, hang out in historic waterside pubs or frighten the whole family on guided ghost walks after dark. Cultural types among you might marvel at the sumptuous rooms and priceless antiques at Castle Howard (25 minutes), where you can also breathe in clean Yorkshire air as you explore the 18th-century follies and monuments that dot the surrounding parkland. Fans of war history could make a beeline for the World War II aircraft and armoured tanks on display at Eden Camp Modern History Museum (half an hour). Kids will probably fret until they’ve spent a day on rollercoasters or spotted big cats at Flamingo Land Resort (35 minutes); if they’re not behaving well, threaten to lose them – and find them again of course – in the corn labyrinth at York Maze (15 minutes, seasonal).
