  • Yorkshire Wolds site in the old walled gardens of Thorpe Hall
  • A 15-minute drive from Bridlington and 35 minutes from Scarborough
  • Coarse fishing pond and five-acre playing field
Set within the old kitchen garden walls of a country estate, Thorpe Hall Caravan and Camping Site is a quiet, peaceful and sheltered location to relax and unwind. The family-friendly (and dog-friendly) site is less than a mile from the small Yorkshire village of Rudston. Bring kit for a day at the coarse fishing pond or gather chums for games on the five-acre playing field (ideally cricket, in keeping with your traditional English surrounds, but anything goes really…). If you're after things to do locally, then a quick explore of Rudston (including a stop at the Rudston Monolith, the tallest standing stone in the United Kingdom) should top the list, before driving off to the coast at Bridlington,15 minutes away, for sandy beaches and sea-view strolls. And so to your digs… in the estate’s pretty walled garden, with plenty of space and shelter and access to a smart heated bathroom block that’s got disabled access and hot water available all day and all night. The small shop sells essentials such as milk and bread (and is a handy fount of local information too), and supermarkets in Bridlington are handily close by for all your barbecue bits.

What customers say

Spotless campsite in a walled garden, with roomy spots & great amenities, especially the showers. Friendly staff get a shout-out too. Super peaceful vibe for unwinding. Handy for Bridlington, good pub nearby. WiFi's a bit dodgy, but still ace for cleanliness & a great time.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. However, we're sad and somewhat surprised to hear that there was nothing you liked about your stay with us. We urge all potential customers to read our details on the site prior to making a booking so that they can be sure the site meets their requirements. We also urge those who have made a booking to read the subsequent information we send out. All important and useful information is contained within.

You mentioned on arrival that you expected an electric pitch despite the fact that you made a booking for a non-electric pitch. If we could have upgraded you we would have but we were unable to help as it was the Bank Holiday weekend and we were fully booked.
The image which you'll have seen when you chose to book the non-electric pitch was very accurate as it showed the pitches with tall trees and hedges to the sides and rear. The network and mobile signal is very much down to your service provider and not the campsite (though we did mention in our correspondence to you that Wifi, phone and and TV cannot be guaranteed due to factors outside our control)
Please also note, we have no agreements in place with any taxi firm. When you asked us to call a taxi for you on two occasions we were more than happy to oblige but we cannot take responsibility for any charges that were agreed between you and the driver.
Sadly you won't be back to visit us but we wish you Happy Touring for the rest of the season and beyond...

Liked Fantastic site. Well set out and quiet.
Kim and Neil are so helpful. I loved my extra night in the temporary field. I’d forgotten it was Bank Holiday and I didn’t want to drive as planned on the Saturday.
Will definitely visit again.

Disliked Nothing!

Liked Second time staying here, did one with electric and one none electric near the games field. Throughly enjoyed both stays. Beautiful setting, good facilities and clean showers.Friendly helpful staff. Will be going again as it was a great base for flamborogh and surrounding areas. We stayed in our Vw camper.

Liked NOT THE CHEAPEST SITE BUT WE LIKED ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING , FANTASTIC SITE , GREAT LOCATION , YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOU ARE LESS THAN 5 MILES OUT OF BRIDLINGTON ,REALLY CLEAN TOILET AND SHOWER FACILITIES AND GOOD WASHING UP AREA AND LAUNDRY . THE SITE IS IMMACULATE AND VERY WELL MAINTAINED , THE PITCHES ARE LARGE WITH LOADS OF WATER AND WASTE WATER POINTS AROUND THE PARK . I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYONE WITH A CARAVAN OR TENT TO VISIT THIS SITE . WE WILL BE BACK .

Unpowered grass motorhome site (adults only)

Liked Close to Bridlington and Flamborough.

Disliked Overpriced for a campsite without electricity, £29.50. Located next to a sports field, where youngsters played football until late (the field was supposed to be adults-only). Noise until late. Plus, it was full of people with dogs, which often ran off-leash. Only portable toilets.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we're disappointed that you didn't enjoy your stay but we shall try and address your comments below.
- We are confused by your feedback of being overpriced as when you booked it yourself via PitchUp you chose to book a Non-EHU pitch and would have been quoted £29.50 a night. It's at this point that you could have chosen to look for another site instead of booking ours?
- The pitches were adult only, the field was not so we are sorry if this caused any confusion.
- It states in the description that facilities are a 150m walk away and whilst the portaloos were in the shared use field for your convenience, you also had full use of the facilities block (toilets, free showers, plentiful hot water)
We did get a call from you but only about people playing ball too close to your unit but when we came around to visit the site they were at the far end of the field. However we did offer you the option to move to a choice of other pitches. Had you mentioned the other things that you were unhappy with we'd hopefully have been able to find solutions to some, if not all of them.

Would highly recommend

Liked Friendly and clear instructions on pitching at arrival. Clean, quiet site with excellent facilities. Owls and stars at night. Maybe just our luck? Easy drive to coastal attractions, the monolith at Rudston and Burton Agnes Hall and gardens, all well worth a visit.

Liked Friendly staff. Despite me parking incorrectly and then setting up then Tentbox the staff saw the funny side. The playing fields were great to use when quiet with the dogs. Clean, tidy and warm toilets and showers.

Disliked WiFi didn’t work but the site are honest and say it is intermittent. Good to not have some signal for a short while so not a huge issue but it will be for some.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and rating Barry. In all honesty we are just getting to grips with the Tentbox ourselves as whilst we thought it was just a box on top of a car and that they all opened out the same way it turns out to be so much more :0) We hope to be able to welcome you back again in the future but until then...Happy Touring!

Liked Great location, friendly staff, good dog walking facilities.
Fantastic community pub within a short walk (15/20 mins)
The Shower was very good, the site was quiet during our stay.

Disliked The bathrooms were a little tired, and the pitching instructions we found less than clear, but small issues that would not prevent us returning to this site.
Poor wifi

Local attractions

Can’t get enough of these grand stately homes? There are plenty more options nearby to swan around in… Burton Agnes Hall is a 10-minute drive from base, Sewerby Hall and Sledmere Estate are within 20 minutes, and Burton Constable Hall (and its Capability Brown-designed grounds) is 45 minutes away. Perhaps the most famed, though, is the exquisite Castle Howard (45 minutes) – it’s starred on TV several times, playing the role of Brideshead (in Brideshead Revisited, twice) and Kensington Palace (in Victoria). Steer away from the country piles with a trip to York, a little over an hour away, to meet vikings at the Jorvik Viking Centre, cruise along the river or take a sweet trip into the past at York’s Chocolate Story. Or perhaps head to Hull (50 minutes) for more museum action and sealife encounters with more than 3,500 fish that live at The Deep aquarium. Swap both city and country for coast with a trip to Scarborough (35 minutes) for days on one (or two, or three…) of the beaches, a splash at the waterpark or peaceful ambles in the gardens. Filey (20 minutes) has another fine beach, and a clifftop golf course with cracking coastal views.
