  • Spacious Norfolk farm site on the edge of the Broads National Park
  • Beaches and Norwich city centre around 20 minutes' drive
  • Laidback pick-your-own pitch site with firepits provided
The Broads, the beaches, the buzzy city of Norwich… whatever it is that’s enticed you to Norfolk, you’ll be in a handy location when you stay at The Old Vicarage Campsite. This spacious and laidback site is in a rural location five minutes’ drive from Acle, on the edge of the Broads National Park and about 20 minutes’ drive from both Norwich and the Norfolk coastline. There’s heaps of space at this farm site, but not heaps of guests – numbers are always kept on the lower side so that everyone has plenty of space to set their stuff up as they like, and to relax and/or play games. It’s a pick-your-own-pitch setup here, so friends and families can pitch up close together while others seek out a more secluded spot elsewhere around the two-acre site if they like. Kids, dogs, groups, barbecues, awnings, outdoor tables, badminton nets… this is a chilled-out site where you’ll be able to bring whoever/whatever you like (within reason…) Campfires are a must, of course, and they’re made nice and easy with the provision of ‘Bernie Brazier’ firepits for keeping warm or cooking on the hotplate. The one thing that’s not allowed at the pitches is cars, to help keep the place peaceful and safe for everyone (especially free-roaming kids). Wheelbarrows are provided to help you cart all your kit from car to pitch, and can occasionally be handy for transporting tired kids too. Other facilities include toilets, showers and a washing-up area.

What customers say

This chill campsite has ripper views & is spick and span, with grouse modern facilities like hot showers. Campers loved the heaps of space, USB charging, freezer access and cookin' on wood burners. Great spot to tour the Norfolk Broads by car, and the host's a top bloke. A bit of road noise, but no biggie.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Very clean and modern facilities with lovely hot showers. USB charging points, freezer for ice blocks, use of BBQs and logs available (reasonable price for logs). Not too large a site, but big enough to have plenty of space. The views over the fields were beautiful. Close to Norfolk Broads by car. Friendly host. The farm / camp site has the most adorable cat

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked An absolute gem of a campsite! If you're looking for a peaceful, uncrowded, and beautifully maintained spot, this is it. The campsite is small, which is a huge plus as it means you're never surrounded by crowds. Everything is clean, from the facilities to the grounds themselves.

One of the most unique and thoughtful touches was the fresh herb pot. We were able to use a variety of fresh herbs for the fish we cooked on the fire pit, which made the meal truly special. We also appreciated the detailed map of recommended local places; we used it to explore some fantastic spots we would have otherwise missed.

While there are no electrical hook-ups on the pitches, this wasn't an issue at all. They provide a free charging station for phones and other devices, which was a perfect solution. The check-in process was brilliant and seamless—no need to waste time at a reception desk. It was simple to get settled right away, and knowing the owner was just a phone call away for any questions. We will definitely be back.

Disliked I personally would prefer the normal toilet than composting one but not the big issue

Local attractions

As you’re just on the edge of the Broads National Park, it makes sense to start there – perhaps, with a walk, a bike ride, a boat trip or a canoe tour to see some of the watery scenery. Popular hubs for all of this include Reedham (10 minutes’ drive), Upton (10 minutes) and Salhouse (15 minutes). Wroxham is about 20 minutes’ drive away and there are family attractions nearby like Pettitts Animal Adventure Park (10 minutes) and BeWILDerwood Norfolk (25 minutes). There are plenty of options around for sandy beaches too – from Gorleston-on-Sea (20 minutes) up to Sea Palling (half an hour). Horsey Gap (half an hour) is often a good place to spot seals, while Great Yarmouth (15 minutes) is well known for its traditional seaside amusements. For a day out in Norwich, it’s about a 25-minute drive or you can take the train or bus from Acle. The city has lots of historic buildings including the castle and cathedral, and plenty of more modern attractions too.
