Beautiful waljs, a digs paradise

  • Family-friendly Norfolk coast site with views of beach and salt marsh
  • A 10-minute drive to Wells-next-the-Sea; 15 minutes to Holkham Hall
  • Next to the coast path, a short walk from Stiffkey shop and pub
Set off to the north Norfolk coast and a splendid Stiffkey location set between the saltmarshes and the beach – High Sand Creek Campsite has been a popular seaside retreat since the early 1970s, and with a location like this it’s easy to see why… Book a pitch here and you’ll be staying right by the coastal path on the edge of the pretty village of Stiffkey, between Blakeney and Wells-next-the-Sea. It’s all big skies, wildlife-rich saltmarsh views and natural entertainment around here, with plenty of woodlands and creeks to explore as well as some gorgeous beaches. The site’s setup is a traditional one, with handy amenities like toilets, showers, chemical disposal, a launderette and a washing-up area but no noisy entertainment or fancy facilities. Dogs and kids are welcome, and there’s plenty of space on the pitches to get set up just how you like it. Getting out to explore should be straightforward from here, with things like Morston seal-spotting trips and the fabulous beach at Holkham within easy reach. There's also a little maritime museum on site to tell you a little bit about the history of the place. The edge-of-village location is a handy bonus here as well, as it means it’s just a short walk to the local pub (serving food all day), a shop and a café, plus bus stops for picking up Coasthopper services to other destinations along the shoreline.

Liked Facilities, clean and in good repair. Plenty to go round.
Location, I have yet to find a better.
Esprit de corps, friendly staff and campers.

Disliked The top of the site where the electric points are is exposed to NW winds. Prevailing winds being from the opposite quarter it's not a deal breaker, until it is. The bottom of the site is sheltered from all directions though, and all the site is sheltered from everything except north westerlies.

Liked Clean and well maintained toilets, showers and washing up facilities.
Hairdryer in the female toilets.
Stunning sunsets.
Great walking from the campsite and Coast hopper bus was cheap and reliable.
Pub and well supplied shop in Stiffkey both great.
Friendly and welcoming owners.
Location is perfect for nature lovers being on the edge of the salt marshes.

Disliked Nothing within anyone's control but campers should pack some rock pegs. The excellent hardware shop in Sheringham sells really good ones if you forget!
This is a coastal location so prepare for a bit of breeze.

Liked Great site in a great location.
The whole site was very clean and tidy at all times. The shower block and toilets were incredibly clean at all times.
Situated on the edge of a National Trust marshland and a coastal path. It is a 3.5 mile walk to Wells, which is ideal.
Stiffkey village has a nice pub that does food and also a village shop.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked The customer service and friendliness of the staff was excellent from the moment we arrived. The location is great. A short walk to the local pub (where the food is wonderful), in one direction and then very close to the salt marshes in the other direction. The bus stops are very close to the end of the lane where you can catch the Coastal Hopper in either direction. Can't wait to return.

Liked Pretty much everything. People friendly, helped me when I had difficulties taking my tent down, lent me milk (that I later replaced). A great campsite with a lovely coastline. Liked it so much, I was back there not long after leaving.

Disliked Pitch size could have been a bit bigger. Felt a bit restricted.

Local attractions

Coastal antics are likely to dominate much of your time here – top highlights locally are the colourful beach huts and seafood restaurants of Wells-next-the-Sea (10 minutes’ drive), the sweeping forest-backed sands of Holkham beach (15 minutes) and boat trips from Morston Quay (15 minutes) to see the resident seals of Blakeney. While you’re at the coast, it’s very much worth stopping by at Holkham Hall (15 minutes) to stroll around the grounds or visit the hall’s art collection. Other historic buildings nearby include the atmospheric ruins of Binham Priory (10 minutes) and the Jacobean mansion Blickling Hall (35 minutes). A different take on the past awaits at Langham Dome (five minutes), which gives an insight into life on an airfield through World War II. Sticking to the outdoor scenery, perhaps you’d like to take walks through Holt Country Park (20 minutes) or the gorgeous grounds of National Trust - Sheringham Park (25 minutes). For an easier way to see your surroundings, try a ride on the North Norfolk Railway from Holt station (20 minutes).
