Spacious Stargazer pitch

Ww1 living history experience

  • Almost wild Norfolk campsite half an hour’s drive from King’s Lynn
  • Brancaster Beach and Sandringham Estate 15 minutes’ drive
  • Peaceful woodland pitches with World War I trenches on site
Gather around all you World War I aficionados, for here’s a real treat. The peaceful campsite at Dreamy Hollow is set on a 7.5-acre wild woodland site home to rare Lovat Scouts trenches listed by Historic England as a site of national importance. For anyone not so interested in 20th-century history, luckily there’s lots of birdwatching and stargazing to be done on site as well. Half an hour’s drive from King’s Lynn in Norfolk, the site’s almost wild camping and hammock pitches sit amid woodland comprising mainly oak, silver birch and mature hawthorn. Part of the site was quarried during the 1940s, and this provides some sheltered and some elevated pitches of varying sizes from tiny to truly gigantic. While most of these secluded spots are family friendly, the ones close to the trenches and in the Turtle Dove conservation area are adults-only. Campfires are allowed in designated fire baskets at each pitch when fire-risk conditions allow. If you would like a campfire, the site asks that you please order logs and kindling in advance when booking. Extra seasoned wood is available to purchase on site.

Unpowered grass tent site (three person)

Liked: Hot showers and fire pits by every pitch

Disliked: Uncomfortable pitches
Very dark
Cold shower cubicles quite cramped
By a main road

From the manager: Hi Dan,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.

I'm glad to hear you liked our hot showers and fire pits.

We like to keep the campsite as light pollution free as possible to give it the 'wild camping' feel.

I'm sorry to hear you found the pitch uncomfortable. All our different pitches make it unique (unlike a giant field filled with campers) however as the land was previously used to quarry, some pitches aren't 100% level.

Kind regards,

Naomi

Unpowered concrete and grass campervan site (eight person)

Liked: Tranquil and relaxed site completely immersed in nature. Pitches are separated by banks and trees and invisible to one another. The site Manager, Harry, was welcoming and very obliging. We ordered firewood in advance of our stay and when we arrived it had been very carefully stored in waterproof bins.
The WW1 trench tour was truly interesting - Ian, the guide was extremely knowledgable and had put a lot of effort into showing us all aspects of life in the trenches.

Disliked: A little bit of road noise but it really wasn't a bother. It certainly wouldn't put us off staying again.

From the manager: Hello Angela,

It's really great to hear you enjoyed Ian's tour of the trenches too. His knowledge is outstanding.

We hope to see you all next season!

Unpowered grass tent site (four person)

Liked: Big pitches in woodland setting

Disliked: Washing facilities could be better, and more water taps around the campsite

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed our large pitches and that you enjoyed your stay.

Thank you for the feedback about the taps and washing facilities.

The water pipe only runs along one side of the site (from the housing estate behind) which is why it's where it is. However, we can look at getting a water tape put further near the front of the site, on the same side. We will add this to our list of things to discuss for 2025.

We hope to see you again soon!

Kind regards,

Naomi
