  • Wildlife haven in west Norfolk: walk to the beach in two minutes
  • Basic and peaceful site next to the Norfollk Coast Path
  • Barbecues and campfires allowed; shop and pub a few minute's walk away
The splendid beach near Hunstanton Camping and Glamping (dog-friendly Heacham beach, two minutes' walk away) is the only east-coast beach in Britain facing west. This means that guests here are often treated to the sight of a spectacular sunset over the sea – a real rarity for Norfolk. As well being a romantic sunset spot, this location is also a very enticing one for watersports enthusiasts, hikers and families – plus dog owners, who are welcome to bring their pet along for a holiday and a ramble along the Norfolk coast. Hunstanton Camping and Glamping is on the edge of the village of Heacham, in a peaceful wildlife haven surrounded by open fields. It's three miles from here to Snettisham, five to Hunstanton and 10 miles to Thornham, all with dog-friendly beaches and walks aplenty, or you could feel regal for the day with a trip to Sandringham – and its woodland walking paths – within 15 minutes' drive. The site has a good selection of amenities including toilets (ladies', gents' and unisex facilities), four indoor unisex showers and a number of outdoor showers. Grey waste water disposal and chemical disposal are available for touring guests, and plug sockets in washrooms mean you can charge phones or use hairdryers easily enough. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed; a local shop a minute's walk away has most supplies you should need. There's also a pub a few minutes' walk away.

What customers say

Great spot near the beach for sunsets and walks. Staff, especially Nigel, are tops. Peaceful vibes and roomy sites. Facilities are pretty basic, a bit rough and pricey, and the site's a bit unkempt.

Power optional grass tent site (large, family, four person)

Liked Likes

The location - we walked with a painfully slow toddler to the beach in 5 minutes

The consideration gone into fire safety and facilities

Nigel (he is as lovely as everyone says)

The dogs and chickens

I had good phone signal on ID mobile

The size and orientation of the pitch, private and spacious but lovely opportunities to socialise if you wanted to (we had a lovely time with our neighbours)

The regular and thorough cleaning of the facilities each morning. People are a bit gross overnight but this does not reflect the campsite's standards.

The relaxed atmosphere of the site as a whole

The fact you can cheekily nip over to park Dean and use their shop

Nigel had considerately put families with young children near the facilities, and people who were likely to keep different hours, at the other end

I carefully read the reviews about broken glass, and was mindful of it. Whilst I could see what the reviews are talking about, they are over-egging the situation. It's of no concern, and this is from a POV of a toddler mum.

Yes there is one broken down caravan but if thats what you're spending your time looking at, you're missing out on a lot. It really doesn't detract from the site

Disliked Though there was plenty to love here, we felt it was over priced.

At a more reasonable price we'd book again in a heartbeat.

Saying that, it was fully booked, so I guess it just is what it is

Unpowered grass tent site (small)

Liked Great location, very chill camspite with quick responses by telephone. Really helpful and kind staff. Thought the toilets were great and great washing up area. Lots of space. Great that you could have open fires. Really quick walk to the beach.
Very easy to get to without a car. We got a train and then a bus and it was very easy. Short walk from the bus stop and buses are regular.

Disliked A couple of the showers needed the plugs unblocked or something as they did flood but even just a sign to warn you of this so that clothes are not left on the floor would be great.
Very expensive for what it was as very minimal facilities.

Power optional grass tent site (medium, family)

Liked A Hidden Gem for Nature Lovers

I absolutely loved this site. It’s an authentic, rustic campsite with everything you need close at hand — and the fire pits were a real highlight. I made full use of them and they added so much to the experience. The beach is just a two-minute stroll away, and is vast & sandy.

If you’re looking for polished facilities with underfloor heating and gleaming tiles swilled out with bleach five times a day, this isn’t the place for you. But if you crave peace, wildlife, and a back-to-nature feel in a stunning coastal setting, this site is perfect. It’s simple, soulful, and exactly what a proper campsite should be.

Power optional grass motorhome site

Liked Nothing

Disliked Dreadful place. The worst and most expensive I have ever stayed at. Dirty, untidy, showers broken, looks more like a scrapyard than a camping site. Pitches are not clearly marked, everyone parking wherever they like. Not even given a pitch number so when I returned with my campervan after 8pm I just had to park in any place I could find. I have a 6m campervan (crafter), and because the owners had stipulated on this site that campervans had to be 5.5 meters or less, I had to book motorhome site (though note above, there is no signed demarcation of areas). When booking for a motorhome it says ‘no campervans’… so not sure what to do. Given that the sites are all the same/some not marked at all, I asked for a refund for the difference. Was told that I had to pay more because I was a taller vehicle. What? Ignore the responses from the site on here that suggest they are surprised by the reports of the state of the place. Reception (see the photo of what looks like a dump for computer equipment ) is manned by the owner 3 meters away from the rubbish and the broken showers - he knows about these things and has done nothing about them.

Power optional grass campervan site (no awning)

Liked The location of the campsite was great. Really close to the beach and some local pubs and shops.

Disliked This campsite needs some serious TLC and updating. The facilities are not fit for purpose and filthy. There is scrap metal, rubbish and just general debris everywhere around the site. They charge a premium price for below standard facilities, I’m guessing they try to justify due to the location but it is not justified at all. I believe this campsite should be closed for some renovations as parts of it are not safe. They advertise WiFi but this was not available at our pitch which was not far from the main house so not sure why it’s advertised if the signal strength is not enough to reach people. All in all a disappointing stay and feel like we have been ripped off. Due to a festival in the area no other accommodation was available so couldn’t move short notice.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We are glad you found the location to be great and close to the beach, pubs, and shops.

However, we are truly sorry that your stay was so disappointing and that you felt you were ripped off. Your review highlights several serious issues, and we want to be clear that we take your feedback to heart.

There is no excuse for the poor condition of our facilities. We sincerely apologize that you found them to be filthy and not fit for purpose. Your comments about the scrap metal, rubbish, and general debris are incredibly serious. We agree that parts of the site are not safe, and we are committed to addressing these issues immediately.

Power optional grass campervan site (no awning)

Liked Close to beautiful beach. Apple tree-)
People watching, it’s a small site so neighbouring pitches close together.

Disliked Restaurant in holiday park not open to outside guests and no other options within walking distance. Fish and chips at North Beach good quality but expensive. Nisa has very limited choice if you want to barbecue, only jarred frankfurters and frozen beef burgers.

From the manager: Thanks so much for the review! We're glad to hear you enjoyed being so close to the beautiful beach and that you liked the apple tree. It's great that you would recommend us to friends and that you'd visit again.

We appreciate you bringing up the points about the local food options. We know it can be a challenge, and we're sorry you were disappointed that the holiday park's restaurant was closed to outside guests. We'll be sure to share your feedback with local businesses, as it's really helpful for them to hear.

We hope to welcome you back again soon for another stay by the sea!

The site is behind the sea defences: watch out as you head towards the sea. The site is the last farm building on the left-hand side of the road. From the A149 at King's Lynn, turn left towards Heacham South Beach (Lamsey Lane). Then, turn left again towards the beach and turn left into the campsite when you can see the sea in front of you (roughly 1000 yards before the beach).

Local attractions

Nature fans rejoice, for there's birdwatching galore around here. Make for the RSPB reserve in Snettisham for flocks of birds around the Wash, or for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (20 minutes' drive) to see avocets, marsh harriers and pink-footed geese around its marshlands, reedbeds and freshwater lagoons. Titchwell has a wide sandy beach to investigate too, where scenery seekers can snap far-reaching views across the Wash. Boating and watersports are easily accessed just down the coast at Hunstanton. The town's also home to the rides of Rainbow Park fairground, and the Sea Life Sanctuary next door where you and curious kids can see seals, penguins, otters and other watery species. Other recommended options include Norfolk Lavender, five minutes' drive away at Caley Mill, and the 12th-century ruins of Castle Rising (15 minutes), one of the biggest and best preserved keeps in England.
