  • Simple pitches in a flat field a mile from the village of Quinton
  • A 10-minute drive to Stratford-upon-Avon; Warwick Castle 25 minutes
  • Greenway cycle path opposite the site; dogs on leads welcome
Keep things simple for your break in the Warwickshire countryside – The Moat is a back-to-basics site on a flat field about a mile from the village of Quinton, and it’s a place that’s all about providing a quiet spot for a budget-friendly outdoor break. Accessed via a layby on the B4632, this site is well located for all sorts of days out, from walks in the Cotswolds National Landscape to exploring historic attractions like Warwick Castle and Stratford-upon-Avon. A greenway starts just across the road for cycle rides to Stratford-upon-Avon, and there are plenty of places around for a good walk in scenic countryside. Dogs are welcome to join you on those walks, and on site as long as they’re kept on a lead. The setup here is a simple one, with just toilet and shower facilities, plus a chemical disposal point. There’s plenty of space to get your pitch set up with whatever gazebos, awnings and outdoor furniture makes you feel at home, and for the kids to have a bit of a run around in the fresh air. There’s a shop for your food supplies in the village – and it’s also got a pub and a takeaway for easy meals. A couple of other pubs are within a few minutes’ drive as well.

Liked Plenty of space

Disliked No toilet facilities during our stay! The toilets & showers were closed at 9pm, we left at 8.15 am and they were STILL closed. So the toilet facilities are closed and locked ALL NIGHT. We were not told about this on arrival and there were no signs to say they were going to close either! How can a campsite say they have these facilities when you cannot access them. I do not see the sense in this at all, this is why we stayed on this site.... We may as well have done a pub stopover! Luckily we have our own loo in our campervan, but some people could quite easily be caught out by this. It isn't as if you can make a swift exit to find facilities elsewhere either... as you are literally LOCKED into this site. You can only leave by honking your horn at the gate (and that's if they hear you!) or you can call them until eventually they answer and someone comes to let you out. This feels really wrong, you cannot leave quickly should there be an emergency situation. Why not give a code for the gate?? Also, the facilities (when open!) are mixed mens & ladies cubicles which isn't made clear and might not appeal to everyone. It seems this place is a CL site due to the signage, but I don't know how! Unless the signage is out of date and still being displayed. Anyhow, I have stayed on MANY campsites and I rarely leave negative reviews
,but this one is just wrong on so many levels and the owners really need to have a think about how they are running this place as currently it is just unacceptable.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked The fact it was a secure site
Good levelish field
Owners on site throughout

Disliked That the owner had to constantly let you in and out ( so we felt like he knew all the time where we we going and what our plans were
The showers and toilet areas were dirty throughout our stay with no toilet rolls at times
The shower was very hot for 2 mins then constantly cold, needs some hangers on the backs of the doors
No bins in any of the wash areas etc or toilet brushes
Old soap dispenser on the wall ( needs to be taken off and replaced with a pump soap that is at t6he side of the sink

Local attractions

When you stay here you’ll be just a little way north of the top edge of the Cotswolds National Landscape, so there’s lots of lovely scenery to explore on walks and outings there. Some of the favourite spots nearby include National Trust - Hidcote (10 minutes’ drive), Broadway Tower (20 minutes), Cotswold Lavender (20 minutes) and Batsford Arboretum (25 minutes). For other ways to see some of your surroundings, you may like to take a walk along the eight-mile Blossom Trail from Evesham (25 minutes) – it’s particularly lovely in spring, when all the flowers bloom. A steam train ride from Broadway to Cheltenham on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway is another excellent option. To take in some of the area’s history, spend the day in Stratford-upon-Avon (10 minutes), visiting Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and Tudor World. The town is also home to the MAD Museum and Stratford Butterfly Farm for family outings. Warwick Castle (25 minutes) is a great choice for a full day out as well, with all sorts of displays, play areas and kids’ activities as well as the medieval castle and parkland to explore.
